DIET SUGGESTIONS NEEDED FOR CATS WITH MULTIPLE ISSUES. Anyone have a cat with both diabetes as well as other issues, i.e. ORANGE JULIUS also has early kidney problems which discourage the high protein diet and ZACK has lymphoma in addition to diabetes (he's losing weight too).

I want to get real serious now after finding t his site, as vets have not been real helpful. I am starting up freestyle libre monitoring on both cats again today and am aware of the risks of fast glucose dose changes BUT I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE any DIET SUGGESTIONS. Been using Royal canin prescription diet diet mostly for OJ (kidney) and moderate high protein diets for Zack (lymphoma) -
dietary recommendations for feline lymohoma cancer patients are for foods with a high fat content and no more than 25% carbohydrates on a dry matter basis. These properties can be difficult to find in most adult cat foods, and there are no cancer-specific diets on the market. Kitten diets were recently recommended which i am about to try. Any thoughts? Greatly for any help. Mostly doing wet food . Please also suggest healthy TREATS to help get them off dry food

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I am sorry you are dealing with all these problems
With early kidney disease, there is absolutely no need to discourage a high protein diet. This is old thinking.
Nowadays it is recommended to give a cat with kidney disease a high protein diet unless they have very advanced kidney disease.
I would steer away from the Royal Canin prescription diet as it is high in carbs.
If you are giving insulin, you will need to be aware that when you swap to a lower carb diet, it will lower the BGs and you will need to monitor closely and adjust the insulin dose accordingly. We can help you with that. But you will need to set up a spreadsheet for us to help you. I would se t it up anyway for your own benefit.

****make sure you have a hypo kit set up as well. Instructions in the link above.

As far as diet goes, have a look in the link below. It will detail number of carbs, fats and phosphorus……look for foods that are carbs10% or less for both cats if both diabetic, and phosphorus 250 to 200 mg/100kcals for your kitty with kidney problems.
FOOD CHART

For treats have a look at the freeze dried food available at Chewy and ZiwiPeak.

My Neko had diabetes (from a secondary condition caused acromegaly), kidney disease, heart disease and small cell lymphoma. I mostly fed her raw food make with a premix called EZComplete, made by FoodFurLife. For kidneys you want high quality protein, not necessarily high protein or low protein. You can also lightly cook the meat if you don't want to feed raw. Depending on if he's getting chemo, and thus imunocompromised, some don't want to feed raw.
