I am wondering how long I should keep Mr. Frog at the .5 ..... I was rather expecting lower numbers this morning instead of higher. But maybe I just don't understand the pattern of this yet :?
I think I'd up it a little. Maybe try .75 again - if you can sure monitor, since it took him into lower numbers last time. Hard to know if, now that his body is used to the insulin, whether you'll get the same numbers or a little higher.
It looked like lower might be the way to go, but now you know he needs a little more.
Could this be related to me leaving the insulin out the other night? It was out for probably close to 8 hours, was at room temperature (cool, but not cold at all) when I found it.
Should I contact the vet to get a new bottle? Or just go ahead and adjust the dose with what I have and keep in mind that I may need to reduce the dosage when the next bottle is due/new?
ETA: The second choice would be better for me as this prozinc is rather pricey.
I don't know. Hate to see you buy another vial. I guess I'd try upping the dose and see what happens first? You don't see any floaties in it, do you? Just the regular cloudy suspension?
You know, I just realized I may be making things messed up... I've been posting my dosages based on the u40 chart... in other words, my .4 was in u40 (1u in the u100 syringe) ... Should I be posting in the u100? Oy, Im sorry, should have thought of this much sooner. I think I was thinking that since prozinc is u40 insulin to use that format.
Post the dose in the U40 format. So, for example, if you are giving one unit of insulin, that is what goes on your chart. ( Regardless of what that converted to in U100 needles). It sounds like you are doing it right.
Ok, good, yes that is how I've been doing it. I also thought that format will be easier to explain/show to the vet if I show it to her.
ETA: On that note, do you think it would be ok to go to .8 since that works out to exactly 2u on the u100? Would be much easier to dose (at least until the syringes with 1/2 unit markings get here... ordered five days ago) I assume if I jump a little higher like that I would need to get additional tests to make sure he doesn't go too low, which +H(ours) would be optimal to aim for?
Yes, .8 should be fine. Just get a few tests - maybe +3 to see how he is headed? And midcycle if possible. It is easiest to see what is happening tomorrow am if we know whether he went lower overnight. Then we aren't guessing about a bounce. We have some evidence.
Thanks. I am just paying it forward like you'll do some day.
Well, I got the +3 last night, but failed to wake for the mid-cycle .. he is back high again this morning (392), and unfortunately I can't curve today as I have to be out of the house for awhile, but I'll try to catch what I can when I can. He was a little nauseous this morning, but 15-20 mins after giving him 1/4 tab of Pepcid ac he was ready to eat his breakfast with gusto.
Good morning Barb (and Frog). Hard to tell whether a bounce might be part of the amps. I'd just stick with the dose and see how things look later. Glad his tummy settled.
