Mr. clooney's vet visit today 4/10

1st thing Dr Wilson did was put Mr. C on the scale, and he's gained 3 ounces! Went from 11lb 14 oz to 12lb 1 oz. That may not sound impressive, but pre-diabetes, he was an 18+ pound cat. Both his heart and lungs sounded good (also on Enalapril for heart failure). Doc checked his urine; no ketones (yay!), everything else normal, though a titch acidic. Drew blood and our meters were close, so that's not the problem.

We talked about Sologyi rebound (thanks Sue). While he doesn't think it likely that's what's going on with mr C, he did think it was well worth checking before increasing his insulin. So instructed me to take bg readings at
+1, +2, and +3 and see if there is that drastic dip. If yes, call him and we'll back the insulin way down. If not, then he wants me to take it up to five units. But after reading and listening here, I think I'll just go up to 4.5.

He also checked out his mouth, and said while he's not in dire shape, he does need a dental, and might even help his numbers a little bit. Instructed me to prep him differently from a normal cat. Going to have to get that scheduled *soon.*

So next thing is the hourly checks, which I can't do tomorrow, but should be able to to Friday.

Lots of favorable news for the visit. Did your vet suggest lowering the dose for this test? You have data for the higher doses already. (I would argue the most important number is 5-7 hours after the shot when he will be at his lowest point. +1 will be a number influenced by food, + 2 and 3 will give you some info but not as much as numbers later in the cycle) Seems like the only way to see if the dose is too high is to lower it and get some data?

I have mid-points for the higher does, but not hourly readings. According to the vet, with the somagyi, the bg drops drastically early on, then the body freaks, kicks in, and rises and levels out high. That's why he's having me test at the current insulin dosage.

It will be food influenced, but pretty much all of Mr C's are, as he's an all day eater. And even overnight. If I don't wake up on my own to go to the loo, he wakes me for food :( Spoiled, I know, but if i don't get up, I get no peace, and can't sleep....

oops, managed to post twice.... so I'll just change this one to asking how to change the "using ProZinc" to "PZI," so as not to be confusing.

I don't know if that will tell you much. The way we usually see a rebound at high ranges is that they one day, just crash. We usually suggest a reduction in dose t see if the numbers improve.

But try it and see.

To change the "using prozinc" to "PZI", you need to go into your user control panel (upper left corner of screen), profile, edit signature. Then change what is in the text box, to what you want to see.

Click on the submit box/button and then on the yes button that pops up on the next screen. Voila!

Thanks~done :)
I take it you're a fellow Monty Python fan ?

First shelter had named him Mr. Winkles. Second shelter changed it to Winkley. Neither one really worked for me, so after I took him home to foster, I started to play around with the name and liked Wink Wink Nudge Nudge much better ;-) ;-)

And when he is being really pesky, a pest, the Nudge is the yiddish Nudge meaning pest or annoy. That usually means he is begging for dinner about 3 hours early! ohmygod_smile Like now.
