MPM - Steady Progress

Wow. I can tell this was expensive. I am so sorry this is happening. I know how scary it is! I also have been through similar symptoms. I hope she will recover from this soon. I am glad you decided to take her to the vet and get a full workup though. I hope she will tolerate the meds like the Sucralfate. It’s a lot. If she won’t, Slippery Elm Bark can help a lot too. Does she let you pill her? Man, you must be exhausted today… with worry and waiting for answers! I totally get that! Hugs! Thank you so much for letting me know. Just this past weekend, I was kind of going over our ProZinc forum people and thinking about who I had not heard from for a while and who I needed to touch base with soon. You were one of them. :bighug:

hi Suzanne. It was a crazy day yesterday.

they ultimately ended up with this diagnosis:
Enterocolitis, mild, with mild prominent muscularis layer and mild impending diarrhea. These could be
acute vs acute nc chronic, and could be the cause of reported clinical signs. Consider IM consultation
- Pancreatitis, mild, appears chronic with mild acute component

I was so surprised because I really thought she had eaten a random bit off the floor on the porch. She is notorious for that, and the onset of her gagging was so sudden. To be honest, I’m not totally convinced that didn’t happen but I’m still going to pursue resolving the diagnoses they told me.

when we got home she was wobbly from sedation and starving. I gave her dinner without the Sucralfate and she ate it fine. I gave her breakfast this morning also without it and she ate it fine still. I haven’t given her the cerenia yet either because I believe she had it last at 6pm yesterday. Both meals I did .25 units because I was nervous she wouldn’t eat.

she seems jarred this morning but is acting mostly okay. She is loathing that they shaved her wrist and belly and is only sitting as to hide both. :(

If she’s eating and not gagging then I would skip the Sucralfate for now, too. I bet she is a bit off this morning. I noticed that yellow on her spreadsheet. Clearly she was stressed!

Definitely stressed.
It was so odd because she kept trying to eat even when she was gagging. Like she was trying to eat the whole time?
Hoping today is more calm. I just updated her sheet with this mornings number.

They always have to list all those possibilities in their reports (the “differential diagnoses.” The positives are that they didn’t find anything worse when they looked around in there. No IBD no masses, etc.

What kind of pet insurance do you have? I have Trupanion for a couple of my young cats, but most are too old now to get pet insurance or they have too many preexisting conditions.

Looking good this morning in green!

I have pets best. I signed her up for the highest level of coverage I could in 2022 after she fell and twisted her hip. They do 90% reimbursement after I hit the $500 deductible. I can claim her diabetes care too so I hit the deductible pretty quickly lol.

What a good thing you got that insurance! I am glad to be here! Keep me posted on how she’s doing. :bighug:
So I just found a smattering of glitter that had fallen from an holiday decoration exactly in the spot where was yesterday right before she started gagging. Did she lick glitter and gag because she had glitter stuck in her throat I wonder?! She absolutely would.

o_Oo_Oo_O

She is acting normal btw and is begging me to go back to her glitter kingdom aka the porch. (She is not allowed unsupervised anymore)

edit—my sarcasm isn’t supplanting my worry/care or planned follow up about the pancreatitis mentioned in her ER report!

That sounds like something my cats would do! I bet she did and it caused irritation in her throat and esophagus. Silly cat! They do like to explore things with their mouths. I was kind of thinking it was something she ate because she was so much better this morning and eating without gagging.

Well, I guess you could go out there and make sure there’s nothing out there for her to get into that she shouldn’t! Vacuum? Sweep? Do you have plants out there? Probably not

No plants out there, just some outdoor furniture and that’s all. Plus the Christmas decoration that shed the glitter which I’m now removing. I’m going to go full bore in cleaning it out for her and then monitor her the next few times she wants to go out there.

so far no diarrhea or upset stomach at all today. She’s been very affectionate and I think is just happy we’re home and stable. No gagging, ate all her breakfast.

she loves licking/eating anything and everything…it’s astounding. I’m really hoping this is what happened and she’ll do dinner fine. It will be about 24 hrs post cerenia injection.
