Motley's heart rate and odd sounds under his skin

Since we brought him home Thursday, Motley's heart rate has felt really high despite giving Motley his insulin and food as the vet instructed. He's also had what sounds like pop rocks under his skin when I put my ear to his neck or side. What's stranger still is it FEELS like there are pop rocks. I plan to call my vet later today, however I work so I can't just take him in.

Back from vet?
If so what was done to Motley while at the vet? Sometimes after giving subQ fluids there will be crinkly noise when the skin is moved. That can be due to some air in the subQ fluid administration.
How high of heart rate?

If gas was used during the anesthetic for the dental, those may be tiny gas bubbles you're hearing under the skin.

He is doing a bit better, less...poprocky... today. But the other problem is getting his weight back up.
