Morphy's one week check up

The vet was very pleased at the change in him, although his numbers are still high. He doubled the insulin dose since Morpheus is doing well on it. He was quite pleased to hear I could home test. I don't have to bring Morphy in as long as his numbers are heading down, just call and let him know what they are. He just warned not to get too wrapped up in this until it was overwhelming. I take it he hasn't had a great deal of cat owners who are not phased by this. He said to go ahead with trying to control it with diet. He also recommended Walmart Novolin N when I run out of insulin. Evidently the law says he has to get insulin in a strength too high for small animals, that's why he had to dilute it. Morphy's count today was 460 while it was way over 500 at this time last week. He's back to being a kitten, lots of energy and super playful.

Well, "N" is probably the worst insulin for cats.

And that business about 'strength too high' is non-sense.

99% here use undiluted insulin. Veterinary insulins are U-40, and human insulins are U-100.

WARNING: If you get Humulin N (Novolin is a brand name) from a pharmacy, it will be stronger than the
diluted insulin your vet has given you (he diluted it, right ?). You MUST not draw up to the same mark or
you will overdose. Possibly fatally !!!!

There are some insulins that should not be diluted (Lantus, Levimir)....it ruins them.

This vet is somewhat mis-informed about insulins.

What insulin are you using NOW...and what is the dilution.

I agree that wheat the vet said about insulin strengths does not make sense. Did you find out the strength/dilution that the vet gave your? Before you said you were giving 0.1 cc of the insulin and now, since it is doubled, it should be 0.2 cc. That may be too much of the N (NPH) insulin.
