I've been in search for more low carb foods for Gracie since she is carb sensitive and really does much better on less than 3% calories from carbs for her regular minimeals. I've called several companies and gotten "as fed" values and put them into Janet's calculator. Here's what I've found (some of them are on Janet's list but I just wanted to double check):

Evo 95% beef: 2%
Evo 95% chicken/turkey: 0%

Nature's Variety Instinct canned: duck, lamb, rabbit, chicken, beef: 3% (this is a different number than Janet's old charts but company told me they reformulated their foods); I didn't get venison but would imagine it is about the same. Gracie doesn't like the consistency of these but our civvie, Tobey, eats only these.

By Nature Organic grain free: turkey/turkey liver, chicken/chicken liver, turkey/chicken, chicken/mackerel: 3%

Merrick Surf -n- Turf: 3%

Stella and Chewys dehydrated chicken patties: 1% IF REHYDRATED per instructions on bag. If you do not rehydrate, it's much higher. Gracie loves this but for some reason, it made her pukus when it was rehydrated.

Blue Wilderness chicken and BW turkey: I believe these are 3% each but trying to reverify through company.

I hope this helps esp for those with ultra carb sensitive sugarbabies.

Thanks for the info. How do we calculate those carbs again? Besides calling the companies, what is the general formula?

Chester really likes the Blue Wilderness Chicken...not so much the turkey but every once in a while. He refuses to eat the duck or the venison.

Cee:

There's two ways to do it...the manual way or the easy way using Janet's calculator. If you want to do it the manual way:
1. Most companies will give you "as fed" values for protein, fat, moisture, ash, and fiber but often not carbs. So you would add all the other values up and what ever is left over from 100 are the carbs. So, if the as fed values are: 10% protein, 9% fat, 75% moisture, 2% ash, and 2% fiber..then add those together and subtract from 100. In this case, your % carbs in 100 grams of that food would be 1%.
2. Then multiply protein x 3.5, fat x 8.5, and carbs x 3.5; total those numbers which will give you a total number of calories. (Please note that Dr. Lisa uses 4, 9, and 4 and Janet's chart also uses it if it's a human grade food. But either way..the numbers come out really close). Then divide each by the total calories. In our example above, 10 x 3.5 + 35; 8.5 x 9 = 76.5; 1 x 3.5 = 3.5. 35 + 76.5 + 3.5 = 115. % calories from carbs is then 3.5/115 = 3.2% which is your magic number.

OR....fill in the attached spreadsheet, and it will automatically do it for you:

Let me know if you have any questions!

I appreciate this! Kitty doesn't seem to enjoy his FF. Here are even MORE fuds to try!

Kitty loved the Blue Wilderness Duck, but it has high fat content. That upsets some kitty tummies, including his. :? The company assured me that it's very low carb, though.

Thanks so much the only one we have here is surf and turf Do Lou loves it but I need to get some more variety and like Gracie he also is very carb sensitive just using 8% can send him soaring

You are all welcome. Some of these companies are very cooperative and forthcoming...others are a pain to deal with. I wonder if that tells us anything about their foods??
