Hi everyone,
My cat’s name is Benji.
He’s been a diabetic for more than three years now.
I only recently started with the tight regulation protocol with Caninsulin.
(I hadn’t heard of it before).
We had a great start.
Benji needed only half the amount of insulin, or less, compared to before I started with the protocol.
But since he had a dental surgery 3 weeks ago, he has been needing almost as much insuline as he did before we started the protocol.
He eats and drinks like he should, so I don’t think there’s still a problem with his teeth.
But now I have to give him insulin every 6 hours, instead of every 8-10 hours.
Does anyone recognise this situation?
Thank you so much for your reply in advance.
Love from the Netherlands!

Did they do x-rays? It's important that pre and post dental x-rays are done to see what's going on under the gums and then to check to make sure no roots or pieces of tooth are left behind.

I'd suggest having him re-checked to make sure there's no infection or anything going on.

Just an FYI....Caninsulin is usually not a good insulin for cats (the prefix "canin" makes it pretty clear it's better for dogs) but I know in some countries in Europe, vets must at least try Caninsulin first. If you're having to give it every 6 hours, I'd be asking about trying something different like Glargine (Lantus, Basaglar, Semglee, Optisulin) which is a much better insulin in most cats.
