Monty 3/19 Sudden limp

Monty had a sudden limp yesterday. His limp is less severe today. He doesn't appear to be in pain and is ok putting some weight on his leg (front right has the limp). Still behaving normally.

I've called a televet and they've suggested the most likely cause is he's pulled a muscle or given his age (13) it could be arthritis. His claws were long when I inspected him and I've now trimmed these. No obvious wounds.

He's got an appointment booked Wednesday and in the meantime they've suggested a joint supplement like yumove.

Does anyone know if yumove is ok for diabetics?

Sorry about Monty! Is he still on insulin? Curious is his BG is elevated...

Be sure to edit your title and add the question mark. I do not know about this supplement.

Hope this resolves quickly for Monty! I know what it means now--over the last three months--about limping as I suddenly have plantar fasciitis; it takes months to recover!

It doesn’t sound fd related. It’s good he’s improving. I’d keep the vet appointment just to be sure. Looking at the ingredients I think the supplement looks good.

Ingredient of Yumove look okay. Doesn't seem to have any carbs added like some of the chews do.

I'm thinking it's a sprain or some kind of injury. Do you have any pain meds you could give him?

This reminds me I have a homeopathic remedy (in liquid) for Sprains & Strains with various ingredients:
Arnica Montana
Bellis perennis
Calcaera carbonica
Hypericum perforatum
Rhus toxicodendron
Ruta graveolens
(All 30C potencies)

So, perhaps one of these would help. Not knowing exactly what have caused this or your kitty, it's hard to say which one remedy fits, if justbpicking one. Arnica Montana comes to mind, though... I'm just a newbie to homeopathy, but have seen some definite help.

Here's a site that might help explain homeopathy for those unfamiliar:

Yeah I have a stash for his bouts of pancreatitis, but he doesn't appear to be in pain, his behaviour hasn't changed at all.

I'm also concerned if I give him these (strong) pain killers then he's going to move when he should be resting

My civvie Olive had a limp a few times. The first time really concerned me so I took her to the vet and they gave her Onsior and I gave it to her but in hindsight I should have let it heal on its own because she has recovered from another sprain relatively quickly and Onsior is hard on the kidneys. See how he does in a few days. If it's arthritis you can ask for Adequan, an injectable that has done Ruby wonders. Avoid the pain killers unless it's buprenorphine.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Monty's limp is pretty much gone now. Given how quickly it came on and that it healed over 4 days I'd say the most likely cause is he bruised himself or pulled a muscle somehow (he likes jumping off of the couch and he is NOT graceful).

Next time I take him for his annual blood checks I'll ask them to check for arthritis.

I’m so glad to hear this! Is Monty a jumper? My Olive can jump onto a shelf 5 feet in the air. She thinks she is invincible but sometimes she misses and hurts herself. I have stopped worrying about it unless it goes on for more than a week.
