Update: Monkey has shown improvement today by being more active with people.

However, yesterday I find that his has spots on his belly as shown in the pictures. Do you have any idea why does it happen?

The reasons I guess is:
1. The vet prescribe antibiotics to him since last week it was discover from Monkey's bloodwork that he had very high volume of white blood cell. The vet suspected that it may be infection. Do antibiotics cause the skin problem?

2. Monkey is allergic to the can food. I buy Feline Natural. The varieties include chicken, beef, lamb, and venison. I suspect he is allergic to maybe one or two of these. I guess it is less likely because of quality or safety of the food, since Feline Natural cans are made in New Zealand and do not contain strange or low quality by-products.

In addition, I want to ask if Chicken skin is healthy to cats? If I buy chicken parts that involve the skin, it is cheaper for me.

On the other hand I am thinking if I should give Monkey supplements to enhance his general health and diabetes healing, as Monkey is always the least healthy cat in my home. He has history of diarrhea and vomiting. Has some sort of inflammatory problem. Someone suggest that supplements such as fish old omega-3 for anti-inflammatory. Antioxidants for immune support. Digestive enzyme and probiotics etc. What is your opinion on that one? Like do supplement really help? Thanks:D (I have seen your replies if you replied in my last post

Btw, Monkey PMPS's BG is 162 ml, should I adjust the dose? @Nan & Amber (GA) @Bron and Sheba (GA)

That type of skin problem is typically do to an allergic reaction and food is common. DId any recent blood work show high count of eosinophils?
Did your vet take sin scraping to look for bacterial/fungal/parasite sunder a microscope??

Yes they can help with certain problems/deficiencies. I give L-Lysine to all my cats., fish old to some and probiotics to some.

Try foods with a single protein and limited ingredients. A lot of it will come down to trying different brands & flavors. I used to have a dog that had food allergies. Through trying different foods, I determined that if she ate anything with any fish products in it, that would usually cause her allergies to flare up. It is amazing how much fish, such as fish meal, is in dog food.

Some common allergens are fish and corn.

Please see the bloodwork as attached. Yes, Monkey has very high eosinophils. Does it mean food allergy?

High eosinophils can also indicate parasitic infections. Those along with elevated basophils do point toward allergies. Is he on a monthly flea medication? Did they do a fecal float or skin scraping? His neutrophils are also high which does point toward an infection. The high monocytes tend to mean that he has long term chronic inflammation. If you are thinking that it is food related you could try a novel protein like duck, kangaroo, or any other protein that hasn't been a part of his normal diet. Or you could do an elimination diet and remove one at a time, not just for a few days but 2+ weeks to see if that helps. Chicken is a common cause of food allergies in cats, since its in nearly everything. Supplements can help, but like anything don't overdo it expecting quicker results. Stick to the recommended dose. Omega 3s are great for their anti-inflammatory properties. As far as probiotics, they never hurt. All 3 of mine are on them.
I have an IBD cat and for him, the chicken was the issue. But ECID and it could be something else he's eating. Did your vet say anything about the elevated BUN and CREA?

Thanks for all of your input:bighug: Btw, Monkey's BG go 25 ml at +3! At AMPS, he eat less than his diabetic normal (But still more than other other cats, therefore the food should be nutritiously enough). I noticed that he decreased his food intake in the past few days. I guess is because: 1. He swallow a lot of air that make him uncomfortable to eat. 2. His BG is normalized most of the time, ranging from 50 to 250 ml. So he no longer has the appetite when his BG was constantly >300

@Nan & Amber (GA) I have adjusted according to your suggestions. I was busy yesterday and only read your message after insulin injection. Now Monkey Lantus is 2.75 U, should I adjust the dose to be lower?

Peter that was a very big drop of Monkeys today down to 25. What did you feed him to bring him up higher? That is very low and is of concern.
Did you test after the +68.
When you get very low Numbers like that you need to be testing every 30 minutes until you get them up over 50. It looks like you didn’t test after getting 34 for 2 hours. You just can’t do that and think Monkey will be ok.

I would say the depot is over full at the moment as you didn’t take the reduction yesterday.
For tonight’s dose I would give a one off dose of 2 units to help empty the depot and go back to 2.75 units tomorrow if the numbers are high enough.

I would feel happier if you would start posting over on the Lantus forum instead of here. There are a lot more people over there who use Lantus and mot people once they get set up swap over and start posting on the Lantus page.

Monkey has problems related to eating. See the video, I do not know what is he doing with his month. He thrusts, make some "crack" sound, etc. :( Do anyone have any idea?

@Nan & Amber (GA)

Monkey's skin problem still persist:( I withdraw his doll that he sits on because it is not clean. Also I limit their can food to be chicken feast and not other animal. Hope his skin problem can get well and he is not allergic to chicken.

@Bron and Sheba (GA) See the photo of 3 weeks before

The photo of today

It looks the same in photo but it is a big difference if you see it in person:confused:

Awwwww Monkeeeey :bighug: I just want to hug him. I dont know Peter. A lot of time chicken is a allergen. sigh I also wonder with all the "meat parts", hes had didnt have the correct nutrients that our kitties need. Lets see what others say. It definitely looks like allergies. But then again I'm NO expert.

Food allergies (assuming that's what this is-- it sure looks like some kind of allergy) are so tough to figure out. Especially with a cat, who can't tell you when they feel itchy and when they don't (but still have all the fur loss from previous itches)!

Gaining some weight back is a great thing, though! He must be feeling somewhat better.

Hi Peter,
Monkey may have dental issues. Has the Vet ever checked his teeth? Can you look inside his mouth ? Bleeding gums may be infection.

Any idea?:blackeye: It is so nice that Monkey did not rebel strongly

Yes. He is more active now. But I think he is still suffering something, because he is the only cat in my home that do not play with toys. Today my Zobaline methyl and fish oil omega 3 arrived, hope it help:confused:

From my uneducated eye, his mouth looks pretty good. His gums could be a little more pink but that could be because of the flash.
Lets see what others say ok?
Monkey is SUCH a good boy!

I see what you mean by meat part. This is few of the cans that I know that should be relatively safe. According to Petsumer report, Ingredients are human-grade confirmed by New Zealand government. It is made in New Zealand and not risky countries. Close to 0% carbs. Very little fiber. No ingredient that is too strange. Non-GMO. Please correct me if I am wrong.:bookworm: This is the best I can get for Monkey at this moment.

Sorry Peter I meant back when you were just feeding chicken and organ meats. I was wondering if that isnt catching up with him now. This looks like a good food. (although Ive never seen green muscle as an ingredient ) I will let the expers guide you on that.
Monkey PenPen and YOU are in my prayers :bighug:
