Molly AMPS PMPS under 150 since 2/6

looking for someone to look at my SS she has not has insulin since 2/6 pm .5 units her numbers have been under 150 so Iwithheld insulin. Couldn't do a curve as I worked but did check am and + 2.5-3 after food today. She is behaving normally. peeing and drinking normally not acting hungry. urine negative for glucose and ketones. I'm hoping diet change to wet food is perhaps all she needed but I'm feeling guilty that I've held insulin and scared that I'm being too conservative. nailbite_smile

Lesley, you seem to have done the right thing.... Molly's numbers have been good since her last shot on 2/6/13 of .5u...
It looks like you on the way to possibly being OTJ.

If you can go 7 days / 14 shot times without giving any insulin, and you continue to see these sorts of numbers, you will be able to say that Molly is OTJ.

Just looking at the numbers on 2/9.... your AMBG was 137, and by +3 she had dropped to 89. Great. That's the kind of reaction and numbers you want to see! My Oliver has been OTJ since over a year and he has the same range of numbers. Not all cats have normal non-diabetic numbers lower in the 60s or like one of my other cats, in the 40s.

Molly's doing just fine, but please keep testing twice a day for a couple weeks and be sure, then you can test less often.
Do not feel guilty about stopping the insulin for these numbers; you did right and this stopping is the only way to see if she is fine on her own without help from insulin shots.

My suggestion, to try to get the rest of the numbers into a lower range, is to try to feed multiple small meals throughout the day, whenever possible.

Here are the instructions we usually give to those starting OTJ trials:

Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).

If she is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If she is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then her pancreas is working!

Post every day so we can monitor your progress and see if any tweaks are needed. It is not unusual for cats to get lots of blue during their trial, especially at first. Don't panic and don't shoot unless we tell you to.

Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give her the support she needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.
