Mocha has now been on this med for a month. Her BG went from 500 to 167 with no ketones. I switched her food to Nulo canned and Tikicat high protein dry. Nulo is known for very low carb cat food...only 2% in wet food according to their website. Tikicat is also low in carbs, about 10% which I think is good for a dry food. The vet showed me how to test her sugar and I will be purchasing a meter. Mocha is not a real cooperative cat so I am hoping for the best. When the vet did her ear she did not even flinch. Hoping she will continue her progress! Thanks for all the info on this board.

Sounds like Mocha is making very good progress on this medication! Many cats go higher at the vet's office due to stress, so a BG of 167 is very encouraging.

I am not familiar with the Tikicat dry food. I have not been on the boards or had a diabetic cat in a while, so some of my information is probably out of date. Do you have a link or other information about that 10% carbs info?

The chewy.com website says the Tikicat high protein dry cat food has 13.75% carbs on an as fed basis. One reviewer said her diabetic cat did much better with this food than with prescription food. I can't remember where I saw the 10% figure. I just ordered the alphatrak 3 to test her...wish me luck. Mocha does not like to be held at all.

There are very few dry foods that are low in carbs. (We regard low carb as under 10%.) Dr. Elseys Clean Protein and Young Again Zero Carb are two options.
