Mo dosing advice please :)

I have questions and want opinions on how I should move forward with Mo's dose. We have been on 3 units for a while (which I know is high for Lantus). I'm leaning more towards to TR method. His numbers so far today have been below 300 (AMPS 259, +6 281...I would have a PMPS but my partner thought I told him not to do it and I'm currently at work...).

In order to get his numbers to go down, should we up his dose to 3.25-3.5 (it'll be a guess as we have 1 unit markings only ) or try going down? I have a feeling that if we go down on his dose his numbers will go back up.

You could definitely go up to 3.5 if you switch to TR. I’m not sure why you mention going down. Digital calipers work well if you can’t get syringes with half unit markings. We have to eyeball 1/4 unit increases. You are not giving a high dose. A cat needs what it needs.

I would increase, you weren't even seeing blues on 3.0 units. Good luck with the new dose.

Since you are thinking of following TR, could you put "TR" in your signature.

The only reason I mentioned decreasing is because so many people have told me his dose is super high and has made me feel as though I've done bad by him Thank you so much for your advice

His dose is not "super high. Just started higher than we would have done, unless he's a really large cat.

Please keep in mind that Mo needs the amount of insulin he needs to get his numbers into a better range. Not all cats need 1.0u. Think about humans. Some people who are the same height, weight, etc. need more insulin than others. There's no way to predict what a "good" dose will be. Mo needs what he needs. As long as you systematically make adjustments to the dose you can rest easy that you're dosing correctly.
