Mo 17/11 - Mo got into a fight with a dog...

Well this evening was far too eventful for my liking. Mo was outside this evening doing his rounds and a dog that had escaped its house thought it would be a good idea to chase him. Mo instinctively ran home but the dog followed. I was sitting on the toilet (lol) and I heard a dog screaming and I was very confused. I ran to the front door and a woman was standing there with the dog and said "There's blood!" I immediately think the worst and run to make sure Mo is ok. I see my partner standing there talking to the next door neighbour and Mo is all fluffed up and growling. My partner and the neighbour said Mo had latched onto the dog's leg and was biting and swiping at it. The dog is covered in scratches and bite marks but the owner was extremely apologetic and offered to pay for any vet bills if Mo was hurt. Thankfully Mo doesn't have a scratch on him but was very upset by it all. I picked him up while he was still wound up and he grabbed onto me so tight. We went inside and i gave him a treat which he happily ate up.

Suffice it to say my partner and I were very shaken by the whole experience but we were so relieved that Mo was ok and that his instinct was to run home. I checked his BG about half an hour after all of this (the strips arrived today, thank god) and unsurprisingly it was in the 500s. Poor baby.

Apart from that, I tested his blood this morning and he was 412. I'm assuming he bounced again because his PMPS was 261 but without yesterday's data it's hard to say. We will be increasing his dose to 3.75u this morning. Hoping we start to see more positive results.

Oh well, time to carry on with work. Love working a night shift.........not.

Hope everyone is doing well :bighug:

Awwwwww. Poor Mo. :( And poor you. That sounds absolutely terrifying. I'm relieved to hear that Mo was physically unharmed by the dog. Hopefully his numbers come back down soon.:bighug:
Best of luck with the increase.

So the dog got the worst of it. Go Mo. Just keep an eye on him for about a week in case he did get a puncture wound. They can abscess quickly, undetected. Is the dog vaccinated?
I will, thank you :) I assume the dog was vaccinated but you never know. I bloody hope so!

That was scary, I'm glad Mo is OK, poor baby, I'm going to calk him
Rocky Balboa lol. I so glad he is OK .:bighug::cat:

hahahaha yes, please call him Rocky Balboa ;)

Thanks everyone! Mo is doing fine this morning. He was at the door waiting for me when I got home from work. Just tested him and he's back down in the 200s so that's a relief. His high number last night was definitely due to his fight/flight response.

Going to give him his first dose of 3.75 shortly. Wishing for some more frequent blues! :cat:

Have a great day everyone :)

If you can ask the dog owner, please do. Not everyone believes in vaccinating these days. Also call your vet and see what they think.

Wowsers, good work Mo you teach that dog a lesson!

Vaccinations aren’t as worrisome as people might think, I don’t think you have rabies in NZ do you.

He definitely taught the dog a lesson! No rabies in NZ thankfully.

Mo has achieved his lowest number yet! It was about 8.3/150ish!!!!! I would retest him now but he is fast asleep cuddling me so I will let him rest. He has been through a lot :)

Here is sleepy Mo

And in typical Mo fashion, just after I took this he got up and went somewhere else lol

Sorry about the dog fight.

I noticed on your spreadsheet that you thought you gave a fur shot yesterday morning, so you gave an additional two units. We never give a second shot if we think there was a fur shot, cause we have no way of knowing how much got in. I rather suspect more got in that you expected and he got an additional 2 units, which caused him to drop lower yesterday, and then he bounced last night.

It definitely was a fur shot. I'm sure of it. I know not to give insulin if you're unsure but I was sure it was a fur shot. His fur was soaked and stank of the insulin. We would have tested him more yesterday but didnt get the new strips until just before PMPS. His high number last night was due to the fight. I'm almost certain of that.
