Brief update on Mister Mistopheles ---
We went out of town last weekend and boarded Mister while we were gone. We usually travel during the summer so we wanted to see if we could do that for his care.
It really took a toll on him. We got him back Sunday evening and he proceeded to have a low blood sugar incident. He also has stopped eating. We took him into the vet on Wednesday. All his blood work came back okay. The kidney values are not getting worse, but they're not getting better, which we expected. She gave him an anti-nausea shot hoping that would have an effect (it didn't). Yesterday we gave him an appetite stimulant, but it made him dizzy and wobbly. So, today we are just going to give him an antacid to see how that works.
We continue to be so grateful to Dr. Kirby and the staff at Companion Animal Clinic for helping us walk this path with Mister. Every day comes with it's new set of struggles and in the midst of that we know we can rely on them to help us figure it out. We have felt so supported by them and appreciate the special care they give our animals.
All in all, it's been a rough road this past week. But last night he had a great night! We shaved him and gave him a bath. He started shivering a little afterward, but we think that is because he was having a hard time regulating his temperature. He slept with Bryan all last night and is alert this morning! He ate a few pieces of kibble and a nibble of wet food.
Things we have tried include - Stella and Chewys Chicken Chicken (loved a few weeks ago, only sniffs now), Wellness Chicken (loved 3 weeks ago, nothing now), Fortifloa (never been interested), warming food (sometimes works), making food into a mush (worked when he first got out of hospital, not so much now), adding oregano to wet food (snubbed and didn't even lick), Steak Frites (wont even lick), a few different tiki cats and weruva stuff and cats in the kitchen (never know what he will eat, but only eats a nibble and walks away regardless), dry food for kidneys (he used to chase after dry food, but after being at the vet he doesn't anymore. I wonder if it's because he felt bad at the vet, and they allowed him to free feed dry food -- maybe a negative association?), baby food gerbers (wouldnt even lick it). So far the only thing he will consistently nibble on is grilled chicken. We have ordered EZ Complete and it is slated to be delivered today.
This is a picture of him in his new window perch. The past few weeks he has been begging me to open the door in the middle of the day so he could lay in the sun. Being that the temperature was above 90, I didn't want to do that! So, I got this hoping it would be a compromise and we would both be happy. I think it worked!!! Nala wants one too. Who needs a kitchen table? We never use it anyways.
