VanGogh gets his Insulin at 7:45 a.m & 7:45 p.m. What happens if I am not available from say, 4 pm to 10:00 pm? (Christmas Eve!) Can we "safely" skip ONE dose?

I HAVE to be away for 7 injections for Thanksgiving, & am VERY nervous about it. I do have a nurse-in-training & her Dr. Mom as back~up for her, but am obviously still nervous about them dosing on time!

WOW! I hadn't thought about accidentally giving TWO doses! Something new to worry about! Just trying to relax into out new lifestyle. Thanx Shadow!

Another thing you might do is shift his shot time later over the preceeding days, no more than 30 minutes per day, for as much as possible, so he won't be super late, then shift earlier, no more than 30 minutes per day, to get back on regular schedule.

I am STILL struggling getting enough blood for regular testing. Lucky if I get one a day, so we still go to vet about every 4 days for spot check if I miss a day. Until I can do it steadily, I can't do Home Curve. But his numbers seem to be consistent. So far! I even bought a Relion meter that says it takes smaller blood sample,e & for thel ife of me, I can't even get the damn thing set up~! I am sooooo frustrated. . .& worried . . .If I can't get the hang of this, I will have to have vet do another Curve tho it's not really in my budget. . .but I will do what I have to do for my super sweet VanGogh!

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this so I apologize if you've already heard this, but warming the ear is highly important when you first start out testing. I used a sock filled with rice and nuked in the microwave for 15 seconds and would rub it on Mikey's ears till they were warm to the touch and I could see the Marginal Ear Vein start to puff up a bit. Some people use a pill bottle filled up with warm water or a warming pad or simply rubbing the ears for a bit. It eventually gets easier as their ears learn to bleed and now I don't even have to "pre-heat" Mikey's ears for him to give me blood.

Thanx KPassa for the info. I had heard of warming the ears, but VanGogh only has one ear, so we've been (trying) to use the foot pads. I was able to get samples four days in a row, but none yesterday or today . . .yet. . .we will keep trying! Maybe if I warm the pads, that will help?

I did try warming the pad before I read the post as I had wondered in my previous post if that would work & had some success, so I'm going to continue on to see if it continues to work. I'm soooo lucky that VanGogh is so tolerant of all of this! Thanx so much for everyone's input! I still feel alone, but know that I'm really not. . .

WOW!!!! That is one cooperative kitty in that paw testing video! I switched to The Relion Confirm meter & am now getting readings in the low 90's! Hoping they are accurate! Keeping a close eye. Tried to set up spread sheet, but I am soooo computer illiterate, I think only I can "see" it, as I didn't understand how/where to copy/paste what? But at least it's started!

The low 90s? What time in relation to the shot did you get that reading? Ie how many hours after the shot? Normal cats are 50-130 and as a newbie I wouldnt shoot if he is under 200.

I will ask someone to help on the spreadsheet

Wendy

PS Test yourself and see what you get and you will know if the meter is working ok.

Doing 1st Curve today at home with success! Not sure if my spreadsheet is visible to all. I did test myself & got a 99 a few days ago when I was so worried. I was 136 on a neighbour's meter a few months back when I suspected I may be diabetic. (No health insurance. Certainly can't afford to treat both of us & VG gets prioirity!)
Thanks for the concern & advice. I have reduced his dose from 1 unit to 1/2 unit & he is VERY happy! Just purring, cleaning, sleeping away! Seems 90-92 may be his nadir. . .that's the low point if I remember correctly? . .& seems to fall at +2.

I'm the one Wendy asked to help you with your SS but looks like you mostly have it! Great job.

All you need to do is go to your "User Control Panel", then "Profile", then "edit signature". Put the cursor in the text box, then click on the "URL" box above the text box. Copy the SS link and paste it between those two boxes and change the "ccc" in the SS link to "pub".

So it will look like this: paste SS link here

If you want to make it "fancier", then modify it like this:
VanGogh's SS

URL means universal resource locator.
The entire line from http:// onward is the URL, or link.

I am happy to do it for you if you can PM me (click on the "PM" button under Gracies avatar to the right). I just need some info from you and it will take me literally one minute.
