Missed shot

Depends on your insulin, but it's better not to miss if it's at all avoidable. Lantus and Levemir are best with consistent dosing.

I've never used lantus, but here's what I understand. (Lantus users, correct me if I'm wrong)

Lantus is what's called a depot insulin. This means that a kind of reservoir of insulin builds up as you use it to keep glucose levels more stable - less highs and lows. If you miss a shot that reservoir gets depleted, making wilder glucose swings. Missing a shot on a regular basis negates the positive effect of the depot insulin.

How is your cat doing up to now on Lantus? Stable? I'm afraid regular missed shots will damage your current control. If life circumstances dictate that shots are going to missed on a regular basis, you might need to talk to your vet about using a different insulin. I think there are other, more forgiving insulins out there. Again, I'm not sure, but I think ProZinc might be one of them.

Unless the cat is susceptible to ketones or other problems because of lack of BG control. missing a shot one a week is acceptable. We can only do so much for our cats.

I have inadvertently missed doses. I found out when later I found the syringe with the insulin still in the syringe. While not desirable in 99% of cases it is acceptable.

Thank you for the help, sounds like it will be ok,She is controlled very well now and I have missed a few shots here and there at times. Ive started a new job with more hrs. Thats why I ask

Another option is i maybe going away this weekend,i could take her and wont miss a shot, but ill be camping and my friend has a 8 month old cat that will be there, but ill have to hide his dry food so she doesnt get any and take her own food/water bowls and her litterbox? And hope they get along lol

Yes, you could take her camping. She needs to be up to date on her rabies vaccine, and on a flea/heartworm preventative.

oh she is up to date yes, wouldnt be outdoor camping lol. only fear is the cats wouldnt get along???

You may be able to keep them somewhat separated, between harness and tents/campers.
