Missed night dose by 2 hours-- administered anyway, wondering how I should handle from here

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here. Just wanted to say real quick, massive thank you for all the work everyone here does in helping a new diabetic feline owner like myself understand and navigate this condition. My cat was diagnosed with diabetes on April 15 at a blood glucose level of around 300-- since then, our checkups at the vets have seen his numbers go down to 180 on the first one, and then 140 on the latest one. He's, thankfully, been taking it really well.

At the moment, my cat is on a schedule of one CC of Vetsulin every morning at 11AM, and every night at 11PM. He hasn't missed a shot yet, but today I accidentally overslept my alarm and woke up at exactly 1AM, two hours after he would've gotten his PM shot. I was unsure of what to do, and ultimately decided to just give him the shot. However, I'm now realizing after doing some research that this likely wasn't the best decision. How can I best proceed from here? Should I just give him the shot at 11AM tomorrow like normal, or should I stretch it to some other time? If so, what should that time be?

Thanks again!

Hello and welcome. Are you home testing CooCoo's blood sugars? If you are, you would have an idea whether he's high enough to shoot at what would be 10 hours after his last shot. Vetsulin doesn't usually last 12 hours in a cat, but each cat can be different so it's hard to make a general statement.

Thanks for the reply. I have not been able to get the resources to begin home testing for Coo Coo yet. It's definitely something I've been planning on getting my hands on since the diagnosis, after reading some threads here, but I've been unable to for the time being.

I'd get back on track moving it an hour at a time. When you are ready to start testing we can help. I have a video in my signature showing how I tested my cat CC at home.
