Misprinted syringes!

After struggling with getting the right minimal dose I noticed the "new" bag of syringes I opened yield almost nothing at the zero line, yet my other bag gave me 0.2-0.25 unit...I compared the new and old syringes and there is a definite difference where the line is. I can understand in humans this isn't a huge deal, but with a cat that is this sensitive this difference it is a big deal.

Has anyone else run into this?

I once got syringes with fuzzy lines from Walmart. When I went to return them, I was told they are not returnable. I believe it is against the law to take back syringes, but I told them the syringes were defective, made a fuss, and finally got them exchanged.

Mine came from the pharmacy, but they should not have gotten past quality control since it added almost 0.25 unit to the dose. I contacted the manufacturer.

One of the many lessons I am sure to learn...keep an eye on the markings from batch to batch....

Ahh...I see...so I have stated the obvious then huh?

Well, that is fantastic about the calipers!! Definitely going to order those!! I am still on the hunt for the 25unit syringe with 1/4 measurements too...

No, you have just learned something new. I remember reading a post months ago. Someone that had been home testing for a long time did not realize there was a bevel on the lancet. It's easier to prick if you have the bevel side up. We all live and learn new information every day.

I am laughing at myself about all of this...I have held many medical capacities over the last few years between the horse, dogs and cats. I've done daily IV's with main line catheters, feeding tubes, rehab, etc. Now giving SubQ injections, taking blood sugar levels, mapping it all out, and trying to balance micro doses is part of my resume...and strangely the hardest I have dealt with yet. Amazing just how much there is to learn....I came home from the vet thinking okay 1 unit 1x day, feed 2x day...how hard could that be?? I should have known

But you're doing pretty well now, taking it all in stride sounds like. ;-) And to top it all off, Harley is doing well too.

How are the 5 P's? peeing, pooping, purring, preening, purring and the appetite?

Is he up to any mischief today?

Yes, yes we are taking it in stride :)

Ah Harley...Harley has at least 25 different nicknames...and he is living up to every single one of them today. He has been extremely loving, vocal, mischievous and mobile (with a little bit of neuropathy he has been a little wobbly and more lazy the last few weeks). His favorite thing to do when he is hungry is open all the cupboard/pantry doors and find a random piece of crinkly plastic, bring it up to you and chew on it while you are trying to work or sleep :)

He has been a model patient, he comes to me when it's time for his BG testing, meals and shot. He sits very still and lets me poke his ear and give him his insulin. So grateful that he is making this part of it easy for me...I tried testing his "siblings" they were not as happy to comply :) My husband and I swear that he knows I am trying to help him and somewhere somehow he knows it's making him better. I can tell now if he's very high or low, he comes up to me and just wants to cuddle. Poor guy...at least he's trying to talk to me :)

A lot of us have felt that way. They know we are trying to help them. People say their bond with their cat gets so much stronger during this sugardance. It's a rough way to build that loving relationship with your cat, but the results are so gratifying.

So, what was the nickname for today?

When you make up your google profile doc, that could be one very fun bit of information to see in there.

Haha, well when we adopted him he was 24lbs. Granted he is a very large framed cat, he still had about 8lbs to lose to be a good weight. So he somehow became Lug..then Luggy...then Luggster...then Luga-muffin...then Muffin Man...occasionally when he does something very bad (and food motivated, like attempting to break into the special built box for the other cat's food) he's FatMan. But since he lost a bunch of weight he's now actually thin for his size, so he's back to just Luggy :). All of our animals have multiple nicknames, our dwarf sized cat Allergen (who is attached to me like superglue) probably has the most :)
