Haven't got to tell you about the last nightmare. After changeing vets the new one said to change to caninsulin. Don't want to, so i will change the vet again. Going tuesday to another. Talked to the new vet (not the caninsulin one) and she said to do 2, but i asked to do 1.5 because i am scared. I ended up doing 1ui so we could both get some sleep. What do you guys think? 2ui? 1.5ui? Or should i stick to 1ui untill tuesday? Wainting for .5 mark syringes, should be here today or monday.

Since you've just started the 1 unit twice a day, the depot still has to build. I'd hold this dose for a couple more days yet to see what sort of numbers you get with the depot built up. You will likely need an increase though, but let's see. It would also be good for you to look at the Sticky Note on Dosing Methods and decide which one you'd like to follow. When you increase differs between the two, and we'll be able to help you better once we know which dosing method you are following.

Are you testing regularly for urinary ketones?

Have you been on Lantus from the time Mishu was diagnosed? If yes, is there a reason why the dose was reduced from 2U to 1U on Jan 13th?

This is a list of low carb foods available in the UK. Can you check if any of these are available in Romania? I am tagging @Monica-Poppy who is also in Romania and she could also help you with LC food options available

A switch to a low carb diet will benefit Mishu tremendously.

Thank you @Wendy&Neko

Sorry, yes, Wendy is right from 2ui once a day we changed to 1ui twice per day. The foods are not available here in Ro, only Porta is the lowest carb over here.

Not testing for ketones ... There is so much to do, i feel very overwhelmed ...

I'm thinking of investing in microfeeders but it's expensive and might take a while to find them.

I'm getting lost in the forum, if you are talking about the SLGS or TR i don't know which to do. TR is impossible, so i think i'll stick with the SLGS for a while untill i can find a way to find and afford those feeders.... I can't live like this, or my cats....
Got the wet is ok for Mishu part, trying my best. Is there any way i can keep him on what i have for a couple of weeks so i can try to microcip them all and find the feeders? It seems like the only way to keep them all safe and happy and healthy.

I know it is very overwhelming and your bad experience with the vets has made it worse. Just take deep breaths and let's take it slow and easy. Start with SLGS for now and take it as it comes :-)

Testing for ketones is a simple test that can be done at home. You buy ketone testing strips (ketostix) and test Mishu once a month or so.

Made it worse is a light way to put it ... Will try to find the ketostix. For now i am trying to get in touch with my first vet because he is the one nearest me for microciping, and with a site to see if they can deliver the feeders. Going to try to get financial help from my family for the feeders and buy some low carb food only for Mishu so i can make him better. It's the only way out of this for me. Maybe Monica van help me out with the low carb foid available here and tuesday we're going to the new vet to see what she wants to test and find out if there is anything else wrong with Mishu or only diabetes.

Thank you for your help!

Keep us updated with the vet visit. Do not let him/her convince you to change the insulin or increase the dose by entire units. Or get him to eat any prescription foods because they are invariably high carb. Most of us hear what the vet has to say and then just keep doing what we are doing here. :-)

For now, hold the 1U dose BID for 1 week and let's see if he needs more after that. If it helps, you don't need to test as much. One or two tests per cycle in addition to the pre-shot ones is enough. More tests will be necessary when gets closer to normal numbers.
