mr b has neuropathy, weakness/tenderness in lower body so pooping even a nice normal poo causes him to grunt. Its not constipation. Its posturing.

What do you all use if/when you need to help your furbaby along?

This morning he's had diarrhea and i think its because i was giving him a little miralax with his meals. It wasnt much but i threw him off definitely.

I've got flaked pumpkin for pets which we've used before but i'm thinking we stopped because either it gave him gas or soemthing. I cant remember

I gave my non-diabetic cat, Kitty, some miralax. He's 18 pounds so I gave him 1/16th tsp mixed in with a whole can and extra water. It seemed to give him a bellyache. He didn't eat much the next day and when Chuck (diabetic cat) got a lick or two of it he also had a bellyache the next day. Wasn't eating like he'd never eaten before in his life. I could hear their belly grumbling. It does help but for my cats, its not worth the bellyache. I've since started to mix water in with every meal for my fat cat who gets constipated and it's helped him.

I know lots of people use mirilax and I have as well--but I recently saw something that has me thinking twice-it actually links mirilax to some bad things and it seems to cause tummy upset with Dre and runny poo before it actually works.
I ordered this other stuff for me (I know TMI) but thinking of giving a size 5 capsule to Dre maybe every other day-
here is the link--I ordered the hydro C

disclaimer--I am not a doctor :)

PS I would be careful with psylluim husk-- it bloats-
It's unbelievable how far a little psyllium husk goes; even a teensy-weensy pinchette can really increase stool bulk.

Here's a very helpful site:

While Miralax can soften the stool it can also cause abdominal cramping (according to one of our vets).

Do you know whether MisterBee might have a touch of arthritis? If yes then perhaps your vet could give something to help with that? Also, IIRC omega 3 might help with arthritic inflammation, too. Needless to say, check with your vet before introducing any supplements.

Good to know thank you. I think i overdid the psyllium in the past, as well as the miralax recently which i dont plan to use again. I think that was making him gripey the other night.

He has arthritis yes. We have done adequan injections But i cant tell if it works or not.

I got salmon oil capsules for omega but he doesnt like the taste or maybe mouthfeel.

Mogs,
I found this in my research, I have not been able to verify all it says but I do know it does not really agree with Dre (or me)

I ordered the "hydro C" and have put the question to my vet if it is ok for Dre.
Hydro-C (colonic moisturizer)

Yeah we're not going to use that anymore.
I hope that hydro c is an option for your cat. I dont know about those ingredicents. The vitamin c i'm not so sure about, for a cat-? Hmmm
Thanks!

Yeah I sent a email to my vet but I plan to start with a size 5 capsule and he is 20 pounds... he is big boned;)

Try giving Moxxor omega 3. It's derived from green mussels and the capsules are really tiny. It doesn't seem to upset the GI tract or trigger nausea in the way that salmon oil may in some cats. It's available online (not cheap but worth it).
