Well,
The U of MN got Milhous' DKA under control. No ketones in the blood or urine. They left his NE tube in in case he didn't want to eat real food for a few days, but, he pulled it half-way out and I had no choice but to take it out completely the morning after he got home. Fortunately, he started eating solid food right away! He is grooming like a mad man as he was having a really bad hair week and he is acting pretty normal. Still a bit weak and getting over the stress of being hospitalized, but doing very nicely. Our new vet from the U of MN is pro-home monitoring but she has cautioned me not to be too aggressive in the beginning and let them get him regulated before I commence "thoughtful" monitoring. Feline diabetes is one of her specialties and she has a diabetic cat herself. I am putting my trust in her as she really did save his life and I feel confident she really knows her stuff! The whole staff there was incredible. It worth worth the pot of gold and pound of flesh it cost us!
He is not eating as much as before he got sick, but I think that is to be expected. He was on all liquid food for 5 days and wasn't eating anything for 4 days prior to being hospitalized. It would be nice to see him put on a little weight and get back to eating his regular diet. He's on 2 units of Lantus twice a day and is drinking pretty normally. We go back for his glucose curve blood draw on Monday.
As we progress I'm sure I'll have tons of questions, but for now I just want to thank those of you who were so kind and helpful during Milhous' rough period!

PS - is there a key to the topic icons? I'm not sure what they all signify.
