Hi All,

So Leo has neuropathy in his hind legs. It comes and goes, depending on how much sleep he's gotten when he's really busy outside all day it seems to act up even more. I had to go to a healthfood store to find Methyl B12. They had the pills that need to be dissolved under the tounge and they also had this liquid stuff. I ended up buying the liquid stuff because i just thought there is no way i am pilling my cat on top of checking BG and giving insulin! Has anyone ever used the liquid stuff? Is it good to use? It says that it doesn't have added sugar to it, but it is raspberry flavored and Leo really seems to enjoy it when i put some on top of his food. I've attached a picture of the stuff. Hopefully it works.

I know you don't want to pill Leo; but, there was mention of crushing/adding the pill/capsule/tablet form to a small amount of food so Leo would get the proper dose. Read around Jasper's site as there's a wealth of information.

You can also look for a post from Karen and Rambo and Conan. Either click on the link in her signature or contact her. She knows volumes about neuropathy. Rambo will forever be the FDMB's furry poster boy, in my heart, for coming back from being completely splayed on the floor...

Have you ever tried pill pockets?http://www.greenies.com/en_us/Products/FelinePillPockets.aspx they make a diabetic safe one now, the Duck and green pea. They probably have them at the critters shop near you. If he likes them, it might be an easy way to give him his medicine.
 
Well Leo might have diabetes and bum legs.....but he still knows how to wooooo the ladies! LOL

And Julia, i just came back from Critters buying EVO and Wellness food for Leo to try out. I noticed they had a variety of Greenies there but i didn't think any of them were good for diabetics. I finally went to Petsmart too to find Beefeater treats. And of course they don't sell them in Canada :evil: I did find some Purebites freeze dried beef liver treats.....and Leo finally has found a treat that he likes!!! Its 2 paws up according to Leo. So thankfully i can finally treat him for bg testing, he's been such a good boy about it so far.

I ordered some of the B-12 from the website that Deb sent me, so we'll see how he does with that.
 
I'm in Canada (BC) and got roasted/dried chicken strips in the dog section at Petsmart. THe brand is RollOver. I break them into pieces in the bag. Tony loves them, although doesn't need them for testing or shots. Sometimes after I've been combing out underfur for a while he gets short tempered, nd a dried chicken piece is good for another few mins of combing.

Just the Duck & Pea pill pockets are ok...the other pill pockets have corn syrup in them. And the regular Greenies are all dry so of course they're off limits. I believe they call them the "allergy formula." :-)

and Leo finally found a treat he likes! Hurrah! :thumbup

I looked at the picture of the bottle you bought and I don't see where it says "Methyl B12", just "B12", which doesn't work on neuropathy. Does it specify methylcobalamine on the ingredient list?

I used to buy Methyl B12 tablets at local health food stores, but lately I have been getting them at Shoppers Drug Mart or WalMart (Jamieson makes them, and there is an Equate version). Much cheaper than ordering and paying shipping.

The amount of sugar is miniscule and is unlikely to affect BGs. Just make absolutely sure it does not contain the artificial sweetener Xylitol since it is toxic to cats.

The pills are super easy to give. They are made to dissolve under the tongue, so just add a tiny bit of warm water to a pill, and after it dissolves, mix it in the food. Give 3-5mg (3000-5000mcg) daily.

It does say methylcobalamin on the back of it, just not on the front i guess. But it didn't come with a little information sheet on it, so i don't know if it contains Xylitol :shock: Crap, i didn't know that stuff was toxic to kitties.

I went to a Shoppers last week looking for the methyl but they didn't have any at that store. So you say Jamieson makes them? I use their vitamins too. I'll have to go do some hunting around i suppose.

Why

1) it doesn't contain any sugars
2) it doesn't contain any fruit flavors
3) comes in capsule form and can easily be opened and mixed into wet food
4) 5 mg is more than enough for one day and if the cat doesn't finish the food or another cat eats it, no problem as it won't cause harm. any unnecessary amount is peed out.

5) I can purchase my own vitamins from here all for one flat shipping rate! :)
