I went through a ton of threads about methyl b-12 but I think I'm confusing myself....sorry for re-posting what may be somewhere there already!!

Kitten is currently taking 2.5 mg of methyl-b12. I am not expecting any really noticeable results yet because his BG is not regulated yet. I read about some people giving another pill with evening food? Just wondering if anyone found that to be better/worse?

Also, since he should be close to 18-20lbs, he's about 15 now b/c he lost a lot of weight, would it ever be ideal to give the entire 5mg pill rather than cutting it in half?

Finally, its a sublingual pill, but obviously that would be nearly impossible to administer in that manner, it can be taken fully rather than crushed? I'm assuming it doesn't matter, but was wondering if anyone knew more about that.

Thanks for any input! His slipping all over the place is killing me :(

Because the excess is urinated out, you can probably give him more safely. Administer it however it works best, I dont think it affects the effectiveness. I used the Xobaline brand which were sort of cherry flavored (but small) but it messed with the food flavor so I ended up just pilling him like with any other pill.

You have seen Laurie and Jaspers site??

It would not harm your cat to give 5mg because the excess is urinated out. Make sure the Methyl B-12 is pure. Meaning no added sugar or any forms of sugar alochol. Stay away from the flavored ones because most of them have sugar or sugar alochol added. Sugar alochol is toxic to cats. If you are unsure of a ingredient do a google search because sugar alochol has many different names.

When I tried to use it (vitacost.com). I used the capsules. I broke open the capsule & sprinkled it on the food.

The other alternative is to adminster B-12 through a shot. You can get it from the vet. The vet might want to run some blood work first to check the vitamin B levels.

I have been through all of this to find out Baxters vitamin B is normal. He stands at times flat footed. It is very heart breaking.

Give the vitamin some time to work. 6 -8 weeks.
I hope the best for you & your kitty.

I use Zobaline for Diabetic Cats. Which is small enough to place in food without notice and made without any sugars at all. I have seen a marked improvement in his neuro since his 12/17 dx. I tend to go with 3 pills a day.

Edited to correct link.
