Meter reading way different than vet

Hi everyone,

I took Pudden to the vet today because it appears she is now out of remission. I am getting readings in the high 300s.

Pudden has stage 4 kidney failure and is very ill, so the vet thinks it could be stress related. I don't think so and feel she needs insulin, but the scary thing is when I took her to the vet she was 217 and when I checked her at home a half hour later she was 311. That is almost a 100 point difference. Could there be something wrong with my meter?

I wanted a fructosamine test, but was told they don't do it in house and i could come back later this week to get it done. If she goes into the 400s the vet said I can then put her on insulin as then it most likely is true diabetes and not stress.

I am worried though about the difference in readings. Pudden's days are now very stressful being full of syringe feeding, pilling and subq fluids. There is something being done to her basically every 2 hours. She is a very good girl and never gives me problems, but I wonder if it's contributing to the high numbers at home?

She is also slightly anemic. Could that be throwing my meter?

I was thinking that could be it. I was trying to remember the last time I changed it and i think it's been a year and a half. I might buy another meter and see what it says. If it's the same then I will know and it never hurts to have more than one incase one breaks.

Is worth checking because being stage 4 could get her out of remission as well as an infection and if that is the case (hopefully not) is better to start with the insulin soon

I was wondering if possibly anemia could cause these sudden high readings? Pudden's HCT went from 37 to 22 since her last test two weeks ago. I am starting her on a b complex and b 12 injections.

The difference could be due to vet stress. The full effect of the stress on raising BG may not have happened before the vet drew the blood but did when you tested.
Also what "meter" did the vet use and which do you use?

I use the relion prime. The vet did a full blood panel with BG included.

I actually just got back from Walmart and bought a new relion prime with new strips. The number was 320 so still very high. I can't understand why im getting these numbers and the vet got such a "low" one.

I am going to be buying prozinc tonight at the vet's orders. I'm nervous about something being off, but I can't let her continue with these horrible numbers. I will shoot low the first shot and see what happens.
