Hi! I've been using my own meter with Cy - an AccuChek Aviva Connect - because it's what I had right now. They sent it to me as a freebie. I don't test myself often for a lot of reasons, but the more I read about meters, it made sense to get one with cheaper strips for Cy, since I'm testing him way more often. Also, the AccuChek needs more blood than the Confirm, especially for a newer meter. So I went and picked up a ReliOn Confirm and came home to see how far off they were.
I used the blood drop from the same spot to run a test with both meters. With the AccuChek, he tested at 145. With the Confirm, he tested at 110. This seems pretty far off from each other to me - around 27% difference - but is it too far off to rely on it for Cy's numbers? I guess I'm just concerned about having the right info to go on, especially since he's down to just one unit a day of insulin. Today, for instance, he hasn't had any at all because his morning test was lower than it has been.
