When my cat, Keith, was at the animal hospital last week, the vet did a meter calibration. Keith has a OneTouch Ultra meter. She took Keith in the back for fluids and tests and also took his meter. I am assuming for the blood tests she drew blood from his paw. His BG from the lab work was 448. They also used the blood on their Alpha Treks and got results of 413 and 422. The blood was tested on my OneTouch and read 392. That is a difference of 56 points on the lab work BG and 21 and 30 on their Alpha Treks compared to my OneTouch.
She did not give me any advice on it because she was rushed, but if he read 392 on my OneTouch meter was he really 448? Is my meter low? The Alpha Treks were similar but still 21-30 points higher, but 56 would make a big difference. Because, if Keith were really low like 45, would he really be 101 and then would I be treating him for a low when he really was not low?
What do you do?
