No I don't use this meter. I have an AlphaTrak pet meter that I put Freestyle Lite strips in. I'm not sure if Walmart here in Canada has the ReliOn meter/strips that many members talk about. I doubt if it would be as cheap here as in the US. Here's another option that's not exactly cheap but might help: go to Abbott.ca to see if they still have a coupon to print out for a free Freestyle Lite meter when you purchase a box of 100 Freestyle Lite strips (the ones with a butterfly on the strip). Any Shoppers Drug Mart will have these at around $90 a box. If you or a friend/relative can take advantage of Seniors' Day on Thursdays those strips will be 20% off, so $72 a box. They're also tax free because they're a health aid. You could then use the Freestyle Lite meter after you've done some comparison blood tests with your Accu-Check Nano.
 
Walmart in Canada sells the FreeStyle Lite. Along with taking advantage of Seniors' Days, some people have success with buying strips through amazon or ebay (always check expiration dates).

I used it as a back-up metre. The metre is free with purchase of strips. Strips are cheap (relatively speaking). It takes a larger drop of blood. It read higher than my FreeStyle. Because of potential hypos, I stayed with FreeStyle Lite. It was what I was used to and I preferred to use a metre that read lower rather than higher in case of a hypo situation. It also didn't work as well in my hand, but I guess it's all about what you are used to.

I use accucheck and buy my strips off of Amazon. 100 strips for about $20. Some places sell them for almost $1/strip, which is ridiculous when you test twice a day.
 
In Canada most pharmacies will give you a free meter when you purchase a box of 100 strips. I use the AT2 meter with the FS Lite meter as a backup. At Shopper's Drug Mart on Thursdays ( in Manitoba anyway) they have 20% off for seniors (age 55 and up) if you have the free Shoppers Optimum reward card. Also about every 5 weeks in addition to the 20% off they have for seniors a $10 card when you spend $50 or more. I buy my strips...one box at a time...get the 20% off and the $10 card...use the $10 card on the next box...etc With the FS Lite strips it works out to $61.99/100.Also with the Optimum points added up over a year, and mainly just buying testing/shooting supplies at Shopper's I will get enough points to save $200-$300. It used to be more when they had their own store MC but that was discontinued. One of the members in BC (Vancouver) found that she got better prices at Safeway so it is worth doing some price checking.

I see that Baxtermama is in Los Angeles. We in Canada can rarely find test strips at the same prices unfortunately. I try to maximize my buying power at Shoppers Drug Mart the way Tuxedo Mom described above.

Today was 20% senior's day (55 and over) at Shoppers Drug Mart AND the $10 gift card when you spend $50. I bought 4 boxes of 100 of the FS Lite strips today,one at a time so I would get a $10 card with each box. Regular price for 4... $359.96.....with 20% and the $10 card on each box....price for 4...$247.96. I am almost at the $170 point level for free merchandise, which I use for more testing supplies...what a surprise :rolleyes:. I maybe able to get a better deal on line but I am just overly leery about buying from E-bay and the such.

Another member bought strips on E-bay at a fairly decent price and the strips were made in Taiwan. I would not want strips from many of the eastern countries since there has been a lot of cases of counterfeit drugs and supplies coming through some of those countries. I would rather see what I am getting in person before I pay for them. Plus I don't use PayPal and I really don't like using a credit card online. Although most of the sites have secure servers for purchasing there are cases where hackers break into the data base and gets personal information and card numbers.
