i know this topic has been through the mill over and over but i gotta ask

Is anyone here having better luck on prescription diabetic diet than they had on non-prescription low carb food?

I ask because my vet, who i love, is concerned about mr b's ongoing unregulated diabetes. She mentioned today another client of hers needed to go on the prescription diet to finally get regulated and is doing much better now.

Now that begs the question what was that cat eating before the rx diet. Might've been high carb. We dont know.

Mr b gets raw food. Its all meat and organs. It doesnt get less carbohydrate than that!! And i feel this is much higher quality food as well.

Is there some magical properties in the rx diet that creates some sort of glucose control? I'm sur she is talking about purina dm and or presciption diet md. We've been down this road before. I switched to that stuff when i was in the fog of confusion over a newly diagnosed diabetic cat, but months ago i stopped using it. We went with natures variety, radcat, ziwipeak, and finally homemade raw.

I'll gladly switch to rx diet if it would actually help mr b! I just dont understand how it could.

The only thing magical about the prescription diabetic foods is that they are the same while the manufacturer of of commercial foods can and do change the formulation and that can result in large changes in the carb content.

The only thing I can offer is what I recall reading on FDMB about some kitties doing better on slightly higher carb food than very low carb food. Maybe put that as a question on this forum?
