I don't think Before Grain has made its way to the canned food charts yet. It is low carb and good for diabetics  BUT make sure that it is the Before Grain 96% ones. When Before Grain canned first came out to the market, it was 100% meat or fish and only a supplemental food (no vitamins or minerals, just meat or fish and water). Some stores still sell these supplement only cans, sometimes right alongside the 96% ones. The labels of both types are nearly identical so it's easy to grab the wrong can if you're not paying attention.

Both Before Grain and EVO are good  EVO is a bit high in fat which isn't a problem unless your cat is prone to pancreatitis.

I feed EVO 95% over Merrick's BG but only because the EVO is less expensive. They are both good foods! I do feed half Merrick's Cowboy Cookout/Surf & Turf also to complement the EVO because it's higher in protein and lower in fat.

(Although I should say "fed", since Bandit only wanted to eat Fancy Feast for a while after his surgery, but I do plan on switching his food back to the EVO/Merrick's soon.)

I remember someone posted values for the Merrick's BG a while back--I cannot for the life of me find that post, though! I wish I had saved it.

i pay about $24 for 12-13 OZ cans of EVO
i havent checked on the pricing of the merricks but thought of switching things around for a bit.

ill have the check at the store i shop at and see if they have this one in stock, i shop at a little mom and pop type natural pet food store, i get a discount on the EVO for buying it in a case.

thanks!!

I shop at a small, independent pet food store, too. :-) The EVO was cheaper because of the 13oz cans (I pay 1.75 for Beef/Chicken & Turkey, and $2 a can for Venison or Duck)--they don't make Merricks in big cans as far as I know (biggest is 5.5 oz at my store). If BG is about the same price as the Cowboy Cookout, then you can expect to pay about 1.25 for a 5.5 oz can.

ill have to add some in and see how it goes, i feed two on this and any other brand caused patches to slip back again so i decided if i want to be paying for insulin again i better get something much better for him.

one of them is leaving messes in the litter box and i dont have the time to stalk them to find out who, it could be the weather too, or just belly aches who knows!

Merrick BG is in this recent food chart. All varieties are FD friendly, and the Turkey variety is much higher in protein and much lower in fat and phosphorus than the rest. When Willie is eating canned food, he gets the BG Turkey and also Blue Wilderness Duck. I buy them by the case from Petco, usually using discounted gift cards, coupon codes and cashback to help bring the cost down.

thank you for this, i wouldnt mind using the wellness again but i am not sure if people are still having issues with that kind. anyone feed that one and numbers stay ok?

im sort of thinking our issue is due to heat and the amt of time it takes for the cats to eat their food, it may be getting a bit bad and they are getting sick off of it, since i am off this coming week im going to try leaving the food in the fridge and taking it out when i see them waiting and seeing if this helps

now here is my question, the chart that is listed in this email is showing different #'s compared to binky's chart, example evo 95% chicken turkey on binky is zero but on the chart here its 2....just curious which i should be following?

thanks!!!

I don't think there's enough of a difference between those numbers where it's going to affect any decisions (0% vs 2% carbs is not going to affect BG in a discernible way). I believe this chart is more current than Binky's, though.

good to know, i feed EVO 95% chicken and turkey but after this post i come to find its a bit more fat than then merricks, so figured id keep this one on board just during the day when i am at work and feed merricks when i am at home, because they both LOVE the evo.
