Hello, I was reading this topic: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/new-how-you-can-help-us-help-you.216696/

"
Make sure you have your Hypo toolbox ready for use when you start insulin.
Do you have plenty of medium carb (10-17% carb) and high carb (18% carb and over) canned foods in your cupboard, that are marked with the carb content on the top of the lid for easy identification? "
Can anyone advice me what medium carb (10-17% carb) and high carb (18% carb and over) canned food I can give in case of emergency? Do you have some experience which works best and fastest and one I could get in Europe?

Thank you for help.

I have no doubt that other members can offer some suggestions re. HC food in Europe. Where exactly are you?

If you need an option before anyone responds, honey, corn syrup, maple syrup, or even sugar water (equal parts water and sugar) will work. I always used corn syrup since my cat had an indelicate response to the gluten in most high carb food.

You need to know about medium and higher carb foods. The low carb food list is not enough for your purposes.

Hi, as for high carb food in the UK (which may also be available elsewhere in Europe), the Gourmet Gold 'in gravy' foods are good. These are around 25% of calories from carbs (or they were the last time I checked, I will check them again...) For more details see link below.

Can't immediately think of 'medium carb' foods, but I'm sure there are plenty of those around. I can have a look online for some... Are you in the UK, @MargaretM ?

Found some info here
UK INFORMATION (Food, Insulin, Vit B12, and other 'need to know' stuff)

HIGH CARB FOOD
– for low blood glucose emergencies.
You may never need to use this, but it is advisable to have some higher carb food on hand just in case you need to raise your cat’s blood glucose. See more info on the Gourmet Gold ‘in gravy’ foods here: UK, high carb gravy food for Hypo Kit. (Make sure you get the 'gravy' ones, the 'pate' ones are low carb.)
It can be helpful to jot the carb level on the can with a marker pen so you don’t feed the high-carb by accident! It has happened... ;)

It’s also important to make sure you have some source of simple sugar available, such as honey or liquid glucose (the kind sold in tubes in the baking section of supermarkets is fine); or some ‘Glucogel’ (sold specifically for diabetics).
If you think your cat’s blood glucose is dropping too low please post on the forum, or call your vet for advice.

I've always used a big pack of dextrose which I Wuickmix with high concentration with water and directly syringe feed Simba in his mouth side so he swallows it all. And always kept both Gustav's kidney high carb dry food at hand and the same with Simba's m/d drnfood food. It wasn't costly and it always saved their lives.
