Meat cat food - salmonella etc

Anyone nervous about the human outbreaks of salmonella in turkey burgers and recent posts on antibiotic resistant staph in meat?

I wonder because the past few months there have been a lot of unexplained unwellness in civvies and our sugar cats. Could this be a risk for our cats or is cat food processed in a way that this isn't an issue?

The new civvies are on kibble until they are settled in and can be transitioned to wet food. But has this been discussed yet?

I live in Sweden and as long as I buy Swedish bred meat for my boys here, we are pretty safe, since we have very strict breeding laws here, as no steroids or antibiotics etc allowed in the breeding. Beef I serve raw, as well as lamb etc, but I never serve raw bird or pig (however we don't eat pig) due to often salmonella in preperation of them.

The other stuff they are eating is cat food from Hill's made in the US, with all its steroids and antibiotics used in breeding, and since it is the left overs that goes into the cat food, I think they pay less attention to the stuff used for cat food.

I've never heard of any animal rights activists that has been into a cat food factory, otherwise there are many other testimonies to what filthy places breeding places and meat factories there is.

I consider canned food safe since it is cooked to kill the bacteria and other bad stuff. To my knowledge the turkey burgers were not cooked.
 
When I first looked into feeding raw, my vet strongly advised against it because of salmonella potential and the fact that I have young children. The concern was not for our cats, as their stomachs can quite easily deal with bugs like salmonella (or so I've been told). I haven't been able to find the info she compiled but hope to someday...

So in short, from canned food, not to worry. From raw food, I think the only concern would be the humans who can be exposed from the cats shedding the salmonella bacteria. I've not heard of any issues with this though.

That's what I wanted to hear - that the canned food is cooked and not a big deal. Pfhew! Thank you.

Sorry for the broken link. Its not relevant anyhoo - since it probably was with respect to raw grocery store meat. I'll repost the link if I read otherwise.
