Well, Maynard has started to eat and drink on his own. Not very much.......but at least it is on his own. He seems better, but he seems to have to get use to not having his 2 big top canines anymore :?

He seems to have a "hole" in his top lip where the bottom canine is poking into? It must be a matter of adjusting? Anyone see this?

Poor guy. He still seems to have some issues to work around. nailbite_smile

Glad he is home, can I ask if he is on any antibiotics as well? This is good that he is eating something, hope he continues to eat and enough to heal well. Sending good healing vibes for him. :YMHUG:

Keep an eye on his tooth placement. If his bite was affected such that lower teeth now press into the lip or palate enough to cause irritation/harm, he may need those teeth adjusted or removed.

Spitzer had an overbite (think meerkat or parrot) and the bottom 2 canines had to be shortened, root canalled, and sealed ($$$)!

yes he is on antibiotic.

now, why wouldn't the vet this of this overbite thing at the time he had him under? confused_cat

Maynard is 18 and I don't think i would even think of putting him under again. He is recovering so slowly now, not sure he would make another surgery. nailbite_smile

WOW

Awwwwww Ceil...Poor kitty kitty. Keeping you both in my prayers. Hope he doesnt have anymore issues. I agree another surgery would be too scary.

Did the pull an upper canine tooth? If so the lower canine can irritate the upper lip. Also, sometime when an animal is recovering from anesthesia the can bite their lip. Could that be what yo are seeing?

yep, they pulled both top canines and now one of the bottom ones is poking into the top lip. Not sure what can be done about this? He is miserable; he sometimes learns how to put the tooth inside his mouth, but he is really reluctant to eat because of this.

What a mess.........is this just something that he has to learn to use his mouth differently? He is 18 grr_red
