I'm hoping it's not too serious as the syringe only had 0.25 units of Prozinc. It all happened so fast that I don't know what portion of it I got and what portion of it Vinnie got. I felt something on my finger but didn't think anything of it and moved the needle quickly over to Vinnie. When I finished, my finger was bleeding since it had been pricked with the needle. Should I be concerned? I just tested my own BG and it was normal and I drank some fruit juice. Should I monitor myself? If so, how often should I test my BG? Or should I go to the doctor? Look for any signs?

On a side note, Vinnie recently came out of remission and I was trying to get him re-regulated but the insulin was 4 months old (looked fine, no floaties). He seemed to be non-responsive to the insulin so this morning I started with a brand new bottle in case the old one was no longer effective. Looks like today's numbers may be off as well since I may have gotten his dose.

Having had a parent with severe diabetes I can say with certainty that I think you'll be fine. Insulin in humans is done in much higher doses than in our fur babies. 0.25 I seriously doubt would even cause a noticeable drop for a human. Plus, in a person, our bodies make glycogen in the liver which is automatically released when blood sugars drop too low or quickly.

I'm new to dealing with feline diabetes. But, I've dealt with human diabetes, insulin and needles since I was like 8 years old.

Oh NO!! Watch for cravings for tuna, licking your hand to brush your hair and seeing a sunny spot on the floor and thinking "that's a nice place for a nap"! (just kidding of course)

Welcome to the club! At some point, pretty much all of us have poked ourselves with the syringe and/or the lancet. The amount of insulin we give our sugarcats is so minute that it's not a problem for us (my son was diabetic and started on 30 units so .25 is nothing)....but it gives you a great excuse for a hot fudge sundae or a few chocolate chip cookies!

Thank you! (and I really like having an excuse for the hot fudge sundae...)
