Hi Everyone,

Sorry I don't get on here as much as I used to, but now I have two cats, Ketchie with the tumor growing on her back near her tail/spine (she is over 17 years old) and her days may be numbered.

But, my May-Belle who is 11 years old had never been out of my house in 10 years. She started losing weight, and not eating much, so I took her to my vet's a few weeks ago, and she x-rayed her, and ran bloodwork. When she palpated May-Belle's stomach area, she really cried from pain. So, my vet felt from looking at the x-rays, that her kidneys were enlarged and almost overlapping. The one on the left where May-Belle is feeling more pain, seems to be larger. We fear she may have cancer in there, but are treating her right now as if she has Pancreatitis. She is on fluids, at the vet's, and Buprenex twice a day for pain. She is still not eating much, and I wondered if anyone here has had a cat with kidney cancer?

The vet just felt her again this past Monday, and said that she feels a firmness she does not like on May-Belle's left side. Not a whole lot to do, and I don't want to keep her suffering, if it is cancer. I was just curious if anyone here has dealt with kidney cancer?

I hope to take M-B to the vet's this Saturday, before this hurricane heads into our area (I am in Maryland) and get fluids for her and let the vet feel this area again.

May-Belle has always been such a sweet little thing, and she weighs about 9 pounds now, where she used to weigh about 11 pounds. Also, the vet has her on Baytril for possible infection.

Here is her picture:

May-Belle is a tuxedo.

Thanks for any info if anyone has any knowledge of enlarged kidneys or cancer in them.

Jean, I'm sorry I don't have any advice to give but I will keep May-Belle and Ketchie in my prayers. May-Belle is very beautiful. She reminds me of my FIV guy Sweetie (GA).

Sending many hugs and prayers to you especially before this storm that's coming.

Jean

I don`t have any advice either but will send May-Belle and you prayers, and Ketchie too.

Terri

Hi Jean!

You can count on my prayers for May-Belle and Ketchie, and for you, too!

Hope the storm stays away.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for May-Belle and Ketchie.

Thanks to Rachel for the link, that led me to other links, and I now understand more than I did before.

Saturday, at noon, I am taking May-Belle to the vet's for fluids and a weigh in, and will see what she has to say about her tender, lumpy side on her left that seems very painful to May-Belle. :(

Take care, everyone! Give all of your furbabies extra hugs and love!

Sorry to hear about May-Belle's ongoing misery

What's the latest, Jean, from your Saturday visit? Hope you are OK with that storm coming, BTW. It sounds scary!!

Hi Allie,

Yesterday, I took May-Belle to the vet's. She gave her fluids, although she was not too dehydrated. She did seem to have a lot of tenderness in her abdomen, and the vet feels the only way to be sure what it is would be to do an ultrasound, but I don't have money for that, let alone putting May-Belle through an US. And if is is Pancreatic cancer (that is what the vet believes) there is nothing I can do for her but palliative care or put her down.

My poor May-Belle. She has been such a sweet cat. And Ketchie's tumor is getting bigger. UGH.... looks like I will be losing my only two girls left sooner than later.

I hope we make it through this storm. I am only over a crawl space and I hope a tree doesn't fall on my house. I just pray we don't lose power. If I had no cats, I would probably have gone to my son's house, but then again, I hate to leave my house, so I just pray that this storm does not affect us too badly.

Thanks for asking about us.
Hugs,
Jean and Charcoal (GA)
