Maxie +6 380 going up?

He might be bouncing from the blues still plus the reduced dose you gave.
To answer your question about a bounce: a bounce is when numbers go up as a reaction to a low or lower than usual number that kitty is not used to. It's the body's natural way of protecting itself from hypoglyceamia. With diabetic cats who have been untreated or have been in high numbers for a long time, they've gotten used to the high blood sugar levels and see high numbers as NORMAL. However, high numbers are very damaging to the kidneys and other organs.
In Maxie's case, the 111 is the lowest he's been or at least the lowest you've caught him at. He's not used to it. It's new to him! His body panicked and decided it needed more sugar, so it pumped more sugar into the body to "save" itself from the low number.
Over time, as Maxie gets more and more lower numbers, his body will get used to it.
111 is a safe number. It's not low. Low would be numbers under 50. It's lowER than usual. We aim for numbers between 120-90 on SLGS.
However, I wonder if his dose needs to be adjusted. I'm thinking he needs an increase but let's wait for others to weigh in because I'm not confident with my dose advice.

Thank you for the detailed response. It is definitely helping me. When Maxie was diagnosed as diabetic in 2017 he was put on insulin, immediately responded, and stayed pretty stable for a couple of years. I did not catch him high until this summer when he started going up. Later found out that was caused by a dental infection . So I didn't experience this struggle before. To me a bounce was simply going up and down. Now I understand much better. Thank you. It just shows I have a lot to learn.

I’m just curious why you are raising the dose in 1u increments? Normally, especially if you are doing SLGS, the dose increases would be in 0.25u. When you raise by 1u increments, you run the risk of passing right by a dose that might work.
Having said that, he does not appear to be overdosed so that’s the good thing. I’m glad you are getting some nighttime tests as that will help us figure out if he’s dropping at night. I see today was curve day and he looks like he is in a bounce as Crista said.
The thing about cats returning from remission is that if you want to get them back into remission, you absolutely have to be more aggressive in dosing. That doesn’t mean increasing by 1u at a time. That does mean that TR might be a much better option to get him back on track faster. The longer he stays in high numbers, the less his chance of getting back into remission. With TR, you can increase the dose more often. There are many people that work and do TR.

The dosage increases were per the vet's instructions. After dental surgery the vet thought that his numbers would go way down so the vet instructed me to not give Maxie insulin for one week.
After 1 week the vet started Maxie back on 1/2 unit then increased to 1 then by full units; to now 4 units twice a day. The one time I changed was when Maxie had his good day a couple of days ago and gave me a nice blue of 111. I incorrectly dropped him back by 1/2 a unit.
The vet is not happy that I've also engaged this group nor then I'm completing curves at home. If he continues to give me grief the vet might not be my vet too much longer.
