Massaging the area after the injection...question

After giving Pumbaa is Lantus injections, I've been massaging the injection site because somewhere I got it in my head that this would help take the sting out.

Is there any reason I shouldn't be doing this? I certainly don't want to damage the Lantus or somehow interfere with what it's supposed to be doing under the skin, so if this massage is a bad thing, I need to stop.

Thank you in advance,

Suze

I didn't have the insert that came with the vial anymore, but I googled it - it says to gently press on the injection spot for several seconds, but do not rub the area (in bold letters). I have been massaging after the shot as well - Oops.

I guess if that applies to people it would hold for cats as well.

So don't massage the area after the shot when using Lantus.

(or Levemir as it also uses a method of globbing at the site)

Kathie: Oh crap! Thank you SO much for Googling that. No more injection site massages!

Thank you SO much for bringing this up on my condo thread...maybe this will make a huge difference in Pumbaa's numbers? (From my keyboard to God's ear...)

It was weird to NOT massage the injection site this morning,Had to remind myself NO. So I scratched Zeus' back at the base of his tail instead. He loves that.

Hmmmm learn something new everyday! I never have messaged the injection site since Maxwell wasn't on insulin that long and both Musette & Autumn were so hostile in the beginning that it became habit to just get in and get out quickly (Ahhh tortietudes got to love them  ).

But that is good to know going forward.

Same thing here...I automatically started to massage Pumbaa then pulled my hand back like I had touched a hot potato. *LOL* This is going to be a hard habit to break.

Yes, it is. Especially since it's kind of an instinctive habit after massaging the ears for testing. And this is going to be a hard habit for me to break. :(
