Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I should be posting this here or not. Please let me know if it needs to be posted somewhere else.

I need to re-home my diabetic cat named Frazzle. I took him in from a shelter I work at about 3 months ago. Everything was going ok, he was being slowly introduced to my guys and he seemed to be doing well. All that changed 3 weeks ago, they had a HUGE fight and he is now so frightened of my cats he will not come out of my bedroom. I have tried DCIN but they are not accepting any new cats at this time. I have sent out so many emails to all of the shelters in my area and they all say the same thing...FULL! I had to bring him back to the shelter last week because he started marking in my bedroom. I feel horrible but I cannot have a cat destroying my house. I tried Bach rescue remedy, which didn't help. I cannot afford To try Feliway, my boyfriend is still unemployed.

So now he is back at the shelter and is off insulin because we are not there a full 12 hours and he can't get it twice a day. Can anyone help? I feel so terrible and this whole situation sucks!

If there is anyone who can offer advice, or take him in please contact me. Frazzle is a great cat and he does great with dogs. I think he would do great with 1 or 2 cats, my 5 were to much for him.

Please help,

Annemarie

Hi Annemarie,

You are correct, DCIN does have the rehoming moratorium but you are welcome to create an internet page for Frazzle, perhaps a google document or if he has a petfinder page. You can then post that weekly on our Facebook page and we will share posts through our newsfeed. Photos, personal information about Frazzle and medical information would be what folks would like to see.

Could you edit your post title to include the area you live? This could help attract attention of locals who may be able to assist.

Is there a risk of him being PTS at the shelter?

In the meantime, could you not help with the administration of the insulin whilst Frazzle is at the shelter?

he does have a petfinder link, here it is...http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/24493004. do i have to post to the fb page weekly or will DCIN do that for me?

Helene, i do not understand your statement "In the meantime, could you not help with the administration of the insulin whilst Frazzle is at the shelter?" could you please explain?

there is no risk of him being PTS...BUT he is at the shelter now and off insulin, he can not go on like that for very long. this is my problem..

I think what Helene is asking is whether or not you can continue to give Frazzle his insulin because you work at the shelter where he is.

I noticed you stated in your post that you worked at the shelter - could you continue to give Frazzle his insulin shots whilst you are there? I obviously don't know the details of how this could work, what your shift patterns are, and if his insulin cycle could be fitted in around it etc. But hopefully he'll find a home soon, so I just thought it might be possible for Frazzle to continue getting his insulin in the meantime. If he's well regulated it seems such a shame to have all that work undone.

And if it is just not possible to work around the 12 hour insulin cycle....

What do others think - Is one shot of insulin per 24 hours better or worse than none?

It's just a thought, but could benefit from being looked at further.

we are not staffed 12 hours during the day. we are only there from 8am to 5pm, i can give him his AM injection but he wouldnt be able to get a PM one. is that better than nothing at all? Good point Helene!

Another coworker has agreed to come back in the PM and give Frazzle his shot. This is only temporary, he still needs a forever home. If there is anyone that can help, please let me know.

Hey that's good news for now though, isn't it? And we managed that in only a matter of hours, so hopefully there's more to come. Well done on getting that sorted though, it makes a huge difference.
