Hello everyone, I find myself once again in need of help with my sweet Teddy, and know this is the very best place to come. Teddy was diabetec and only had to be on insulin for a short while after changing his diet to wet food, thanks to the wonderful people here who helped me out so much. I am thinking this was around 2008. He is 12 yrs old now.
Two weeks ago, he urinated on the carpet upstairs. I knew that was a sign that something wasn't right, so made an appointment to have him checked. The vet suspected a urinary tract infection, but didn't do any tests and said he was in need of a dental pretty bad. He figured that had contributed somehow to an infection being present and without consulting me gave him a shot of Convenia. (I didn't find this out until I called the office today and asked what was given) In a matter of two days, Teddy's appetite diminished to the point of he would only eat dry food and very little of that. I tried boiling chicken, giving him tuna, sprinkling parmesan cheese on his food, but nothing worked. He seemed very interested in eating, but just couldn't bring himself to do it.
We went back to the vet at which time they did blood tests. Nothing showed up out of the ordinary. I was given famotadine to settle his stomach. Within days, he was throwing up clear foamy liquid and totally stopped eating. We went back to the vet and this time they took Xrays and also did blood work. The blood work showed normal ranges in all but Neu, Baso which were on the low side of high, and HCT which was on the high side of low. Sub Q fluids were given, and the vet said he ate some canned food (Hills prescription a/d critical care) and some dry food. I called the vet today and he called in a prescription for prednisone. I haven't given it

The X ray showed a mass on his abdomen.

I know that is the worse news and I want to go further with treatment for that if I can. I made another appointment with a different vet but can't get in until next week. But right now he is dwindling down before my very eyes and it is tearing my heart to pieces that I am helpless
Please, oh please can someone give me any hope at all or any suggestions as to what I can do...he is my heart

cal loved this stuff and she hardly ate anything.
I would ask for prednisilone instead of pred. the first is the already broken down part of pred and save his little body from having to work so hard. maybe able to help the mass.

I've had this recipe archived at FD Library for years. I've always heard that it was great and that even the worst case of inappetence could be overcome with it. Never tried it before.

A couple of weeks ago Harley (my 15 year old civie) had a stroke. Saddle thrombus. She is slowly recovering, but in addition to the heard disease that caused her to throw a clot, she also has an inflamed pancreas and has been unable to keep any food down. We tried everything to get her to eat.

I finally dug up this recipe and went out and bought all the stuff. mixed up a batch. Looking at it, it was nasty. dark green frothy muck.

Put a tablespoon on a plate and offered it. Harley, who has not eaten more than 2-3 bites of food a day for days, licked the plate clean! gave her 2 more tablespoons. she cleaned her plate again. And again. I am now a true believer in something i've always recommended but had no personal experience with!

Here's the recipe. You may not need it today, but please save it and remember it for the day you do need it.

THE '~LIVER SHAKE~' FOR SICK CATS

This liquid food is appropriate for cats suffering from conditions where they are eating very little or not at all such as anemias, leukemias, deficiency states with symptoms of lethargy, listlessness, and weakness.

1 cup RAW LIVER (BEEF, or CHICKEN)
1 cup FRESH CARROT JUICE or V-8, or Tomatoe Juice
1/4 cup *FRESH FILTERED WATER
1 RAW EGG YOLK
1 tsp.KELP POWDER OR SPIRULINA


COMBINE AND MIX IN A BLENDER UNTIL LIQUEFIED. (Note: it will be frothy)

Dosage:

Administer 10cc daily 3-6 times a day. (6Occ per day max)

Some cats will need to be force-fed with a syringe, while others will drink it out of a bowl.

This food has a sweet and salty taste, and the energetic properties of tonifying (energy boosting), warming and stimulating and supports the kidneys, spleen, liver and stomach.

This drink is a complete dinner for a sick cat until they feel good enough to eat by themselves again.

*Substitute rice water if the cat has diarrhea. Rice water
is made by boiling white rice (2 Tbsp) with water (1cup) for 30 minutes.
This liquid aids digestion and assimilation and inhibits the symptoms of diarrhea.

Hi Dian, How are you doing? I was so sorry to hear what you have gone through recently. Not fair. I hope you are ok. Yes, I would love to talk if you have some spare time. I know you have a lot going on right now.
Thank you for the recipe, I am going out today to get the ingredients. Teddy did eat a couple of times yesterday, just a bit of dry food. I hate giving it to him, but right now if he wanted a big mac he could darn well have it. When I call the vet's office, I only get to go through a tech, can't really reason much with them. We have an appointment next week with another vet. Two of the girls I work with recommended her. The diabetes was scarey enough, but at least there was some hope of a good outcome. And not trying to sound like a control freak, but at least there was something I could do about it. Guess the main goal now is to get him eating and try to get some good information for the new vet visit.
