Managing Asthma and Diabetes

Ku is a 5 year old sphynx and started having asthma symptoms at around 1.5-2 years old. She went on prednisone and this is still the only thing that controlled her asthma. But it triggered diabetes. We took her off prednisone as soon as she started showing signs of diabetes but now her asthma isn’t being managed as no other solutions so far have helped!

Has anyone had any luck with managing asthma without steroids/that is safe for diabetes? Our next step would be to see a specialist

My cat, Phoenix, was diagnosed with asthma this year. He is also diabetic. He has had levalbuterol treatments but this is mostly for emergencies. His vet has prescribed Flovent inhaler. It is a steroid but my vet says it doesn't stay in their system like pills or injections. He also mentioned the AeroKat inhaler.

Right now, I am trying to find a Canadian pharmacy to fill the Flovent. Here in Texas, it is $299.
 
Flovent appears to be regularly used.

However, your cat not being able to breathe trumps diabetes. You can always adjust an insulin dose to compensate for prednisolone if that's what your cat needs to keep the asthma under control There are any number of conditions where a steroid is necessary and the insulin is adjusted as is necessary.
