Make a blog!

Long ago in FDMB land, an outstanding Veterinary Nurse named Jess made enormous amounts of her time and knowledge available to members here. (I'm talking, back in the pre-spreadsheet days, like, 2007!) And one of the millions of helpful things she said was, "Make a blog!" This was when blogs were a fairly new phenomenon.

I can't go back and find Jess' original post, because my password for the old board is lost in the fog of time and my brain. But, this was such a great idea! An organized place to record all those bg numbers. A place to ruminate over what was working and what wasn't. A place to post pictures of our beloved cats, and tales of their amazing accomplishments and activities..... I know of maybe a dozen of us - there were probably more - who actually did make blogs. We had the satisfaction of having this so-personal place that could still be shared with others who were interested in aspects of having a diabetic cat. It was a great place to attach articles and information of interest to the cat owner, to talk about the wonders of our furry companions, to moan about the vagaries of treating not only feline diabetes, but other diseases.

Sadly, over the years, I've watched as the Blog Kitties lost their battles - I think NONE of them to FD or FD-related processes. I think Carolyn and Spot's Roxanne might be the only one who's still with us. My Scruffy left this week. I am "finishing" his blog - recording the bloodwork and tests and treatments that were done in the two months before he died - and more importantly, to me, sort of putting out there in cyberspace the story of how much I loved and miss my Puffer. A tribute to him, my brave little cat who went through all sorts of awful stuff in his short time here, and who brought me so much pleasure.

Scruffy's blog has had more than 7,000 page views! Many of those were accidents, I'm sure - you know, people who typed "What weighs 12 pounds?" into Google and got the post I titled "Scruffy weighs 12 pounds!" or something. But one of things I feel really good about is that I was able to share and to help people - literally from all over the world - who had cats with iris melanosis. I actually heard from a number of people who had found the blog and realized that those brown spots in their cats' eyes weren't normal.

Anyway, if you've gotten this far, you have noticed another of the reasons I think having a blog is such a good idea - I tend to ramble on and on. But, if you're inclined to feel even minimally comfortable expressing yourself with the written word, if you have something about your wonderful kitty that you want to share with the world, if you have helpful experiences that other people could benefit from -

MAKE A BLOG!

(In honor and memory of Scruffy, and Jess' Earl and her beloved dog)

Sure you do!

And what about all those videos, and your experiments with mini-doses for Wheezer?? The pictures of you wearing your bunny slippers and four pairs of glasses? All treasures that should be saved, Dian..... :)
