It takes higher carb foods about 20-30 minutes from when you feed it, to show up as a change in blood sugars. Test about 20-30 minutes after the higher carb food. Also, don't fill him up in case you need him to eat more later.

That's the high carb food starting to work, good to see he's going up. Next test should show the result of the syrup. Is he still eating? If so, how much has he eaten since the 61?

Waiting when your cat is in low numbers is hard!

Yes…. He was about 2/3 of the way through the can when he hit 61. That’s when I added the corn syrup.

He has maybe two tablespoons of the food left and stopped eating. He’s wanting to sleep but I’m trying to keep him awake. He was up most of the night.

That's good, he now "barely" back in safe numbers. Does he want to eat more food?

Looks like you get to reduce the dose again.

I'd test again 1/2 hour after the last one, to make sure he's staying up. If he's still up then, can you remove the 911?

You'd drop his dose to at least 4.25 units, based on the Vetsulin dosing guidelines.

Thank you…. I’m going to give my vet a call at home to let him know what happened.

Hi Denver I'm glad you got Magic to come up.
I saw you gave him Fancy Feast Chunky Chicken , I looked at Dr Pierson's food chart and it only looks like it's 4% carbs
Do you have any med and high carbs Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers on hand
Food chart

For your hypo kit you can get the following and also look at the food chart

med and high carb food on hand in case he drops too low and you need to bring his BG up to safe numbers

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Beef Feast in Gravy 20% High Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Gourmet Chicken Feast in Gravy. 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Turkey Feast in Gravy. 15% Med Carbs

Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers Chicken and Beef Feast in Gravy 15% Med Carbs

Or any other ones from the food chart, abive

Good idea to mark the cans with magic marker how many carbs

At least if you have these you can just get the can and squeeze out the gravy if he didn't want to eat that much of the food.
Just wanted to make it easier for you :cat:

247@ +6. (Poor thing is SO sleepy)

I honestly grabbed the first can I could see and then doctored it up with Karo.

I have his Friskies Shreds (13%), his Friskies Party Mix (HC) and a small stash still if his Science Diet kibble.

I left a message on my vet’s cell. He’s probably still at church.
For his PM dose I’m thinking of going down to the 4u until we can figure out where to go from here.

If you don't hear from your vet in time, 4 units would probably be a good dose for tonight. Though I rather suspect he'll be high and bouncing. I think you can probably ease off the testing the rest of the cycle and let him sleep.

Understandably, I just figured you can buy the ones I suggested so you wouldn't have to doctor them up and just mark the cans .:cat:
@Denver
Poor baby is tired ,I hope he haves a good nap

493 @ +7.75

Should it have shot up this high or do I overdo treatment? I was expecting it to drop some around +6 which didn’t happen. It’s like it all took effect between +2 and +4.

What you’re seeing is typical for Vetsulin. That number is a combination of Magic’s BG dropping too fast, dropping too low, and dropping lower than his body is used to. It’s also because Vetsulin wears off quickly in most cats. Some cats do fine on Vetsulin but for other cats, it triggers huge bounces like you are seeing with Magic. When my cat was on Vetsulin it almost always wore off by +6 and her BG would start trending up from there.
