Happy dance happy dance :D against the vets advice i am doing home testing, his sugars where 241 this am. I am sooo excited, I also made the judgment call not to give the full 3 units if insulin and gave only 1 and watching like a hawk for stress or drop and he is looking and acting good so far. My only mistake was in having to poke his ear 3 times to get enough blood for the meter in sort i mangled his poor ear he was soo tolerant of his slaves fumbling. Andy advice on making testing less stressful for both of us? and did i make the right call with the insulin?

Good for you! That pre-shot level was nice. Now, monitor around the nadir period when he is likely to be lowest. If he remains above 50 mg/dL on a human meter, he is safe from going too low. See my signature link Glucometer Notes for some feline-specific reference ranges and what they may mean.

Giving a low carb treat every time you test, even if it doesn't go well, will have him coming to you, not running away, when it is test time.

Good idea on the treat but i have no idea on what to give as a treat. And I will look that information up again thanks so very much with out your help I would be a total basket case.

Here's a list of Low Carb Treats

It'll REALLY help if you'd start keeping track of his numbers on our spreadsheet. It's a very valuable tool that we will want to see to help advise you on dose changes. Here's "How to create a spreadsheet instructions"

What insulin do you use? It'd also help for you to add some information into your signature line (like you see below about China) so we know what insulin, how long he's been diabetic, what type of meter you're using, etc.

Ok will do so... right now i am trying to figure out the spread sheet... some of the short hand has me confused.

AMPS is AM Pre-shot (the test you do immediately before feeding/shooting)
PMPS is PM Pre-shot

U is "Units"..how much insulin you gave

Then you enter the + system.....each + cell correlates with hours since the last shot, so +4 is 4 hours after the shot, +8 is 8 hours after the shot, etc...then you get to +12 (which is the next Pre-shot) and the +'s start over again

Ok that makes sense thanks much, right now i am transitioning him from evo dry to canned. He is resenting the change from free feed to served I will make the correct entry's asap.
