Mac and Me

Hello again! I went through a grieving process after Mac got his diagnosis. Somewhere down this thread is my panicked initial WTF do I do?!!! So many tears. Mac had to get adjusted to this new life and so did I. Weird to have to cancel trips, and plan out ones life around insulin injection times. It’s getting better. But now I don’t know what to do and I need help.
Mac is now consistently in the 100s except at the AM check where he is in 200s. We haven’t seen a 300 in weeks (WOOHOO). Not exactly doing what my vet has said I’ve been lowering his dose…actually at one point I completely went against his orders and didn’t bring Mac up to 6units proZInc BID. Seemed like too much and I stick by that.
I feel like 4 units in AM seems like it’s just clobbering him now. He will eat but it’s not nearly with as much gusto.
Any suggestions on when to start titration further? I’d ask the vet but….

Also. thank you guys for showing me how to take Mac’s blood sugar. No one at office ever showed me so a lot of this has been me just self educating.

Just curious why you are not doing any other tests after the PMPS . You are only seeing half the picture.
Why did you give 2 units tonight.
I see you are not testing before you give the insulin a lot and some of the unit cells are blank.
Do you have the U-40 syringes with the half unit markings, we use these because we adjust the doses by 0.25 units at a time.

I'm going to tag Suzanne, she is Prozinc user and have her take a look at your spreadsheet

Here are those syringes for Prozinc, with the half unit markings

  1. Amazon has the U-40 syringes with the half unit markings
UltiCare VetRx U-40 Pet Insulin Syringes, Comfortable and Accurate Dosing of Insulin for Pets, Compatible with Any U-40 Strength Insulin, Size: 3/10cc, 29G x ½’’, with Half Unit Markings, 100 ct Box
    Amazon'sChoice

Or I would copy your post and paste it on the Prozinc board, Suzanne is usually there most of the time

Can you please look at her Spreadsheet
Thanks Suzanne :cat:

Okay. The only way to keep Mac safe is to get more tests — particularly a test before every single insulin shot — and we need to know his nadir on each dose. I see you shot a reduced dose last night — but then we have no idea what happened or if that was enough or too little insulin because there are no more tests after the PMPS. ALSO, there are several empty cells on the spreadsheet where I can’t see how much insulin was given. So I am here to help, but I do need a little more data to help. It looks like he’s staying mostly in blue which is good, but we can do better for Mac, I believe. You did right by not listening to the vet about raising to 6 units.
