Hi Everybody

we pulled 2 yellow numbers today for the first time, yeah! was thinking maybe another day or two at .25? feedback???

also, wonderng if her numbers look good enough to start the integration protocol with the other cats. emotionally she's doing really well and i think getting bored with me company - can't blame her :)

also, noticing she is less ravenous in the 200's or is this my imagination?? higher numbers make them more hungry with less benefit is that right? still feeding in stages though just to ensure it doesn't come back up again.

hope all are well,

Jen n Luna

Hi Jen and Luna!

Good job sticking with the dose. I would stay there for at least a couple of days unless we see her numbers go up (or down). They seem to be more ravenous at high numbers, but also at really low numbers too. It seems like if they go really low, they "know that food will bring them up", so they demand food. Yellows at this point are a good sign.
If possible, if you can get some tests "in between" shots, that will help to determine how effective the current dose is. There should be a "dip", not necessarily a big one either, in the middle. From AMPS to +6 which is referred to as the "nadir", she should come down some, then back upwards to PMPS. And if you get any tests in between shots, you should be able to see that curve.

As far as letting her meet the roommates..... I think you can try that, providing you are there in case there is some sort of conflict. From having multiple cats, you know there's a pecking order established already, and it will be all about where Luna fits in to that "order" once they meet each other. And let us know how that goes!

I'd stay with the multiple small meals if that is working for her. And as she becomes part of the group, you may have to watch at meal time to see who tries to steal who's food! Of course, if anyone is eating higher carbs stuff, keep her away from it!

Post often, ask any question you come up with. Lots of times, you might have a question that someone else has been meaning to ask, but hasn't. The more we converse, the more everyone can benefit from the conversations.

we pulled a 177 this morning.... it's only a hair above the "150 don't-give-anymore-insulin" cutoff

but she was already only on .25

i gave such a tiny dose it barely showed, my thinking was that her system still needs to know there will be insulin avail

problem is i have no curve on her (ok, now i get that curve thing)
so i don't want her to go too low, but i had to give something before leaving for work. fed a big breakfast and can have my hubby (who is home sick) give a lunch feeding.

any thoughts??? what is the protocol for this one?

thanks bunches,
Jen n Luna

Hi Jen, it's me Jennifer from DCIN.

Give the 0.25 U, it's a very small dose and Luna has been getting a lot more than that for a while. We're seeing good numbers and I'd like to keep that going. You're leaving some canned food down for her for the day, correct? Add a touch of water to it, mix that in and it will stay moist for hours.

Does that sound good?

I agree Jen. Lantus works best if you don't skip a shot. With that dose and that number she should be fine.
