Quick summary: was originally told there was fluid in the lungs and that it was heart-related and to get seen by cardiology. Cardiology looked at test results and concluded not heart-related but possibly weight-related or/and a lower lung issue like asthma or bronchitis, and to get work-up done by internal medicine.

If anyone here has had their cat diagnosed with asthma or bronchitis, how long did you have to wait to find out for sure, what kind of tests were done, how was the process? What are questions I should ask the dr or things I should expect? How did all that interact with the diabetes? From what I've researched thus far, sounds like inhalers, although steroids, don't affect the diabetes the same way oral steroids do. I'm going to look into any Facebook groups too to find out more. Trying to prepare for when we see internal medicine. Any experiences from people with cats who have lower lung diseases would be awesome.

A very good source of information about feline asthma is www.fritzthebrave.com

I don’t know the website is still being updated (I believe Kathryn the author passed away a number of years ago) but the site is still live and from a general info standpoint, definitely worth a read.

I have a non-diabetic who has asthma. He is currently on Flovent administered via an Aerokat inhaler and is doing well. He was diagnosed years ago at a vet school — he had a number of tests done at the time and other medical issues as well, but I believe it was a chest x-ray showing “donut-shaped” objects in his lungs, along with his symptoms, that confirmed asthma.

Thanks @JL and Chip ! That website does look like a very good resource and I will be sure to dig in. I've been trying to research but since I'm back at work and still recovering from sleep deprivation, it's a bit more slow moving than I'd prefer. So far I was reading that they may sometimes do bronchoscopies or laryngeal washes, and I'm definitely not for that. I don't want to do anything invasive or requiring anesthesia or heavy sedation, if we can avoid it.
I sent the hospital recordings of the sounds she was making and think that will help them a lot in figuring this out.

Guess we have to wait. No one is in any hurry and no one will say if it's safe to wait either. They all "pass the buck" amongst each other (primary says to check with cardiologist, cardiologist says to check with internal medicine, internal medicine says dont know because havent seen her yet so check with primary). :banghead::banghead:

That's pretty sad when you're willing to spend the money and still get ignored. Years ago we got fed a major guilt trip over Jasper's spinal problems, an MRI and a spinal tap did nothing but put money in someone's pockets and the minute we left they acted like they had never seen us before. Really super annoying :blackeye:
