Hi. My kitty Mini Me is on Lantus (since 092812) . His last curve (about a week ago; 2 units twice a day) was: 261, 262, 274, 334. I then moved to 2.5 units twice a day. His periodic readings since then have been in the mid 200s. I got home from work today and all the wet food (fancy feast) had not been consumed as usual (I have 3 cats so it is a little hard to monitor his intake). I tested him and the reading was 46 (He has never been less than 100 and has only been less than 200 twice-166 and 100). He is acting normal. I gave more food and he ate some. He also had a little loose stool today. I will test again shortly but what should I do about his evening shot? Thanks!

Re: Low sugar? Skip shot? Partial dose?

I just tested again (one hour after last blood test and some food) and it is now 54. I sat with him and he ate some more. This would be his normal shot time but I certainly do not intend to give it right now. Thanks for any input!

It looks like you could lower your cat's dose. I would take him down to 1 unit and go from there. Lantus is start low, go slow. Please, he may be able to get off the juice by diet alone. If your cat is in the green readings (below 100) do not give any insulin. He is in the normal range then. 46 is pretty low and he could go into hypo and die if you give that much insulin. 2.5u

It has now been three hours since the first reading. No shot this evening. His reading is now 72. He is eating good.

That is great! Your cat could be on the road to the falls! Keep up the testing and it would be good to lower his dose, not increase it. If I were you I would skip his shot tonight.
