Hello everyone!
First, let me start by saying that my buddy Ozzie has been insulin free for I think a year or two now! We've been diet controlled (FF Classics) up to this point.
I brought both my boys (Milo is a non-diabetic, but put him on same diet as Ozzie) to the vet a month ago and had blood work done on both. BOTH had elevated kidney values, but Ozzie's blood sugar was almost that of a non-diabetic. I've been trying to get urine samples from them which is proving difficult because I can only litterbox stalk them on Saturday mornings when I am not working and the vet is open till noon.
I have noticed some increased urine output in the box lately, and the hair on Ozzies ears looks thin
Anyways..... when Oz was first diagnosed and on insulin I came on here and ended up taking his treatment into my hand. My vet discouraged me from home testing, but I did it anyways. Sooo...... I've read that the Fancy Feast Classics are super high in phosphorus!! I plan on seeing if I can get both cats in for an ultrasound guided urine retrieval very soon, but I want to start doing something proactive with their diets.
I've read that Friskies special diet is the best and also Wellness Turkey and Chicken. Of course I'd like to feed the higher quality, but if Friskies is the way to go in the long run then I would want to know too.
What's everyone's experience with these two foods??? I know back when Oz was diagnosed I tried wellness which made his stomach upset..... not sure if I didn't' slowly incorporate correctly, so any tips on that will help too.
Just want to say this board and it's members are fabulous! I will always trust MY gut and be as proactive as I can with my guys health.
Thanks so much for the advice!
Vivian, Ozzie and Milo.
