Low numbers for Maggie

Maggie had a blue preshot this morning, stalled until she got into yellow, then gave 2u which was .5 less than her normal dose. She's been trending in low numbers the last few days and looks like today is no exception.

Gave her gravy after the +3 reading. She is acting normal, no symptoms. Will check again in 20.

Not sure. It you want three rising tests before you relax.

Sorry, Kelly, I steered you wrong.

I'll be around to cheerlead if you need it.

Don't be sorry! You were just working off the data you had, and really we didn't know how she'd respond in that situation because we'd never been in it before. Without your advice over the past two weeks she would still be bouncing her head off over here :)

You could hold and check in another 30, but - she is early in the cycle so you are going to need to closely monitor today as she could keep dropping.

Yeah, I was worried to see such low readings so early. Luckily we don't have anywhere to go until evening so I can monitor the whole cycle. Her typical nadir is around +6, but she has gone earlier before (though usually on a PM cycle). She's totally thrown me for a loop these last few days, just when I thought I was figuring her out!

She is perfectly content right now, sleeping by the window like she always does. Going to test again in a few minutes.

She is indeed, with white paws. She is a really sweet cat - in all senses of the word.

Maggie has one half cream colored paw. I call it her bleached paw because it looks like she just stepped in a little puddle of bleach. So cute!

104 @ +5. I think we're ok to cut down on the testing. I'll check again in an hour.

Glad she is good she is coming up slowly. She definitely earned a dose reduction. Have to admit I am confused. She has been dropping in dose, but I am surprised how much and how often. Good news but a little unpredictable.

lol, oh good, it's not just me who is confused!

Seriously, what happened on 10/11? After that it's like she has been a different cat.

Now we know 2 is too much for a yellow for her. I don't want to flatten her out but don't want to go into these low numbers again either. So tough to know what to do! Maybe 1.5u? Guess it really depends on where she is tonight.

Oh, I weighed her the other day and she is up to 11lbs 4oz. She was 10lbs at the end of Aug and she looked too thin (though that was the Dr's scale so maybe she would have been higher on ours). Now she is looking just right.

180 @ +6.

Yes, for sure. She's had some low numbers but never this low before so this is a new experience for me. Thanks to all of you for being here!

Wow! Glad you cauycauyght those low numbers...a bit scary I know but also SO nice to see green!

Oh boy, REALLY bouncing. 623 at +8.

Should I give her shot early? It's 5pm now, and our normal shot time is between 6 and 7. We were late today from sleeping in and stalling on the low number.

We are going to a dinner tonight, so latest I can give is 6:00 and then we will be gone until 8 or so.

Yes, you could get back to your regular schedule. But I think I'd stay with 2/2.5. I don't feel very confident suggesting a dose, so go with your gut.

Maggie rattled you today... she rattled me too! :)

In general, during a bounce, is it better to shoot according to the number on the meter or stick to your regular dose? Is a bounce an artificial increase in the same way eating food is?

I see a bounce not as a "true" number, but one that reflects the bounce. It doesn't always work to keep the dose low, but I think it's safer to shoot low because you can't be sure when the bounce will clear.

That makes sense to me too. I am going to go low. I'm thinking 1.5. At this point I'd rather see high and flat than another deep dive.
