Oreo is 69. He has never been this low. Is this considered a low? Do I need to give him corn syrup?

Niki and Oreo

No he hasn't. I believe Tuesday morning was his last shot of 1 unit. I think it was Carl that suggested to not shoot him if he is below 200. He just was 131 this morning. So 69 kind of scared me.

Thanks-

lol it just scared me. First time he has EVER been this low. One of my fears is him dying from a low. I am sorry I freaked.

No problem at all :-D
The numbers we want to see always scare us the first time they appear

To remove the 911, edit your first post and "untick" it ;-)

Niki, Pudder is one lucky little man to have you as his mom. With no insulin since Tuesday this number is perfectly healthy. Give him a kiss and chin scritch and enjoy him.

WOOHOO!! Excitement here! I remember the first time I got a 2-digit number - yep, I freaked too! It's a GOOD thing with no insulin...especially so long ago!

BIG HUG AND YARD DANCE!!!!..........and remember.....BREATHE..... :-D

Thanks. I tell him all the time he is lucky he has me. My sister told me when I had him at the hospital a month ago to put him down. That it isn't worth it. And I thought to myself I am not doing that to I exhaust all my options. I made a promise to take care of him when I got him. And I intend to keep that promise.

hi Niki
I have 2 civies and 1 regularly tests in the 40s.
Honey is now OTJ and her numbers are 70s and 80s so 69 is super :-D

Oh i so so get it...
if you read any of my early posts, I was boarderline commitable...seriously

even now ruben is otj and im so nervous anytime i test. his coat looks a lil shiney/greasy and im worried. tyring not to borrow trouble so just going with the flow, but inside. paniced nailbite_smile
everyone here has told me, so now its my turn to tell you.. don't be sorry, we all "get it" and we've all been there, I actually think i set the bar for crazy pants here, so no worries :-D
pudders is doing great, lets hopw he keeps surfing the green wave

Niki

He can't hypo if he hasn't had insulin. This number makes me very, very happy....and it should also make you very, very happy.

As long as he's got no insulin in him, don't worry about the low numbers ok?

He hasn't had insulin since Tuesday morning. My case manager for DCIN said maybe he is OTJ. I think maybe. So now that he is off insulin he can't go low? The number makes me very happy. Just scared me hes never been that low.

Niki and Oreo/Pudders

i dont the rules, but from my understanding he has to be otj for 14 days with a numbers remaining under 150 (i was using alpha trax- so the range will differ based on your meter) check with an expert here but continue to test at your usuall times. for ruben it was usually ambg +3 and pmbg then +3
good luck, keep us posted

I think your case manager may be right ;-)
We usually say "14 days without insulin, with numbers in the normal range (40-120), with most tests below 100 on a human meter" to make it official. Then we throw a party :-D

Just keep doing what you're doing, test a couple times a day. The drop today was a perfectly normal and safe number. And like others have said, if Pudders is not getting shots, he won't go too low on his own. Things are looking great Niki! The change to a low-carb diet has made a huge difference. You'll want to keep him on low-carb canned food for the rest of his long healthy life ;-)

Carl

That's my hope Carl. I just got a little freaked today. First time he's been that low. Scares ya the first time. I am very happy with the way he is reacting. Now if we could just get testing down we would be on the home stretch. I lost my patience with him tonight and felt so bad. I just yelled at him. But still I felt bad. I could tell he was mad because he doesn't bite me often and he did. I just gotta get passed feeling bad. We are going to have a big party when he is OTJ.

Thanks-

Paws crossed! Can you update your SS to show when your last insulin shot was?

Maybe we can call this am OTJ trial? Also maybe more frequent but smaller feedings to help stimulate the pancreas?

Wendy a little confused according to his ss his last shot was 02/26 Tuesday morning. And I updated it at 9:00 pm central time. So it should be all current. I posted on his post about his numbers about his feedings. I had some questions. So if you could respond to that post it would be great.

Thanks-
Niki and Oreo/Pudders

Oh ok, I wasn't sure what the blank column meant, maybe put 0 in there or OTJ trial day 1 , OTJ trial day 2 etc ?

I saw your food post, I think you are ok to feed whenever, just make sure it's not within two hours of his preshot test.

I'm not sure we are "quite" to an OTJ trial yet. A dose can affect six subsequent cycles or even more so let's be sure we are past the depot and numbers stay down.

Niki...if you can test and feed and, if at all possible, get a test 3-4 hours later, we can see what he's doing. Feed him small meals as much as you can. Let's give it a couple more days to be sure the depot is totally drained.

Yes I usually test him about 8-9 in the morning 2-4 in the afternoon and 8-9 at night. At least that's what works with school this quarter. Who knows about next. I just wish someone in my building would test him. But no one will. Oh well. We will do what we can.

Thanks-
Niki and Oreo/Pudders

If you keep feeling bad oreo is gonna pick up on it. They feel our emotions more than most realize. Think of it this way, Oreo is super lucky to have someone to test him, most don't have beans that test and they end up feeling awful or dying. Thats something to feel bad about.
Nest time you test, smile and think of how good he's gonna feel when you don't have to get shot him w needles when he's off the juice. :-D
